So another week is coming to a conclusion but not before the Retro Game of the Week pick! This time we have a game with no need for introduction. This one is my personal favorite of the 8-bit series mainly because of the ability to create your own super team of adventurers to your liking. The quest is also quite long and enduring. You will face so many devils along the way and find everything you work for totally worth it. Check out Dragon Warrior 3 for the Gameboy Color.
There is nothing better than classical Dragon Warrior/Quest music. The soundtrack may not be able to match against the Final Fantasy series but it sure can take you back in time to the more simple times of RPGs. This is what this game takes care of doing altogether. A total success indeed.
Graphics look as great as they do when the game came out. It's your 8-bit fix to the max. You can't ask for anything more beautiful than sharp 8-bit sexy graphics. The characters are also very well made and done in a way you can actually tell them apart. Due to the limitations, there are some flaws which can only be fixed by games nowadays.
The gameplay is pure RPG goodness! You can create your team and venture out in the world. You can have a total of four party members but only able to edit three of them in and out as you please. The game itself lets you come back later to switch back again with the only downsize that you have to level them up all the way to your current level. It's not much of a drawback because the gameplay is so satisfying, you'll have a great time getting your new adventurers up to level. With a wonderful quest, this game makes the experience totally worthwhile.
The game is actually one of the few RPGs I could see myself coming back to especially with the team training mode it comes with. There is nothing more satisfying than picking up your own team, give them funny names, and training the heck out of them. Dragon Warrior 3 was sure ahead of its time on that department and for that we have to come back for more.
To conclude, the satisfaction this game offers is orgasmic. You'll be left wondering why didn't you played this game before and why don't you just go through it one more time. My personal favorite of the Dragon Warrior series cannot go unmentioned which is why it's here. Best of all, you can try the portable version and take it everywhere. You can't go wrong either way! A total success of RPG goodness!
