You can always just drive around your area and look for the local thrift stores but you can always do your research online before driving. Use such search engines as www.google.com to search for thrift stores in your area. You can either use your zip code and “thrift stores” right after it or use the name of your county or city and “thrift stores” next to it. You'll be surprised how many stores are around your area. It's also helpful to write down their info especially the phone numbers as you can call them before driving to ask if they carry video games at all. Be very cautious if you do this as some people won't even know if they have video games so it's always best just go to see it yourself. There are also times that there might not be video games at that moment, but they could be added later that day and you don't want to miss that. Only be willing to call if the place is so far that you have to make sure it's worth the drive, you don't want to waste your gas after all.
There are certain thrift stores that have specials on certain days. Try to find out when merchandise is on sale so you can get the better deals. You have to make sure that you get there early on the sale day so that they have deals because I'm sure you will not be the only one eying a console or game and is willing to come the day it's half off. There is competition everywhere so don't think you are the only one out there interested in them. It's one of the many reasons people visit thrift stores, for great video game deals! Furthermore, it's always a good idea to ask if they are going to bring some video games out because it never hurts to ask. Try to keep optimistic when hunting at these stores because like in any other place or occasion, you never know what you are going to find. That's the most exciting part of this hobby, you are expecting the unexpected.
As I mentioned before, there is quite a competition out there and to be in top shape for the competition you have to savvy mind. There are certain people that will spend all day at the preferred thrift stores waiting for the merchandise to come out, I call these people “trees”. These “trees” won't move a muscle and will be ready to jump off their roots at the view of new merchandise. Be sure not to get pushed around by these people as the majority of them are very greedy and won't care for anyone else but themselves. I have gotten a game taken away from my hand by them many times which ended in a big discussion, not only because of the game but mainly the rudeness used by the person. They are the least mannered individuals you'll encounter at the stores.
Thrift stores are vast and all around us. They will make us scream from a great score or cry from the people in it. These things just happen and we must accept them, fight, not physically of course but maintain your ground and make yourself respected by them because it's a jungle out there! Class dismissed!
Now, my vision is not 20/20 but that's a Famicom! Am I right? Yes! You know I am! I'm so jealous that good old Mega Man went through a Famicom factory....now that's just not fair! I wonder if he found some rare Famicom games(I doubt it though, I kinda of beat the level in one run anyways). Nevertheless, this is a shot I was more than happy to make. You just don't see a Famicom in video games nowadays so this is a big surprise.
Hmmm is this a pirate or original?
Why you ask? Because this has happened before in a even worse fashion. It's Christmas 2003 and I decided to buy a couple of new gameboy advance games so I picked out Final Fantasy 1 & 2 and Golden Sun. Both seemed to be in the correct shape and all, I wasn't a collector by then if you were wondering. So then, Christmas comes and it's time to open the gifts. I gave my brother his games and he opened them. He went and got his GBA SP and opened the first one, no problem. When he went to open the Final Fantasy box, he realized that were was no game in the box!! Can you believe this? No game in the box! I'm not saying Gamestop did this on purpose, I'm saying some moron worker must have done this trying to get away with it. We went back the next day furious and they didn't even asked questions, apparently it had happened a lot of times in the same day.
Hmm don't sell it as new if it's not new to begin with bob....
Again, I'm not saying that Gamestop HQ called up the manager and said to re-seal empty boxes but come on, that just gives a bad name to the store altogether and now this? That's just way too low by your part Gamestop. I really miss Play n Trade more than ever now! Well, I'm going tomorrow to fix things up so I'll have an update about my re-sealed game, hopefully it's a good one. One last thing, buyers beware! Collectors, examine!
So lets review!
-First of all, do your research! Find out what games and why you want them, don't buy just to buy them because you might end up with a very unsatisfying collection.
-Find out where your local garage sales are and be sure to be there early.
-Visit the thrift stores and find out their specials if any.
-Make friends with workers at the thrift stores as they might have very important information on what you are looking for.
-Use Craigslist to find information on garage sales or to look for games at their “video games”, “toys and games”, and “electronics” sections.
-Always have a smile on your face and be positive, karma! It's all about karma!
-Resale if this hobby will be an added cost to your expenses, I don't want you to go broke!
-Have fun, this hobby should be nothing but a good experience! Search for treasure, you might find something no one has ever come across!
Lets go through this game little by little. You start with the four turtles at your disposal. Now, you can't use them all four at the same time but you can switch in between them, I'm guessing the reason for this is the limitation of the NES, even in the SNES turtles game(Turtles in Time) You couldn't use four turtles at the same time, you could use two but not four. I don't find this annoying at all because the game is better off just playing on your own. Just think how it would look if you had four players playing in the same screen? That's what arcade games were made for during the late 80s you know!
So as you can see, it wouldn't have worked in the first place. The game would go real slow and everyone will be on each others way! Stop complaining that it's not multi player already you punk! Furthermore, the monsters I'll admit are not from the animated series so what? There are many monsters that are not from certain cartoons or series so why are you bashing this game so much? The foot soldiers do look like foot soldiers you know...kinda of...still! I also heard that the monsters might be coming from the comic book which does make some sense since the cover art of the game is from the comic book turtles as they all originally wear the red eye cover things.
Anyways, enough about that. The main reason people complain about this game is for the difficulty which is fine if you are a whiner, if you want a real game experience, this is it. You can't any more of a bad ass game than TMNT for the NES(Well try Battletoads). This game will make you cry and cry until you want to throw your controller with rage but if you are wise, you'll know when you had enough and come back the next time even stronger for another round. You can get through the first six levels quite easy until you reach the Technodrome. That's when things get out of hand. I do suggest you stock up on scrolls with all the turtles as they are the ultimate weapon of destruction and of course always keep your turtles healed. There are certain areas where you can rescue a turtle. What you can do is kill your turtle on purpose if it has low health and just rescue it right away, it's just another great way to pick up a healed turtle. It will be really tough if you get to the Technodrome and loose your turtles because when you start off again, you'll be without any of your weapons and will be vulnerable to those spaceman shooting lasers at you. There are also other machine monsters ready to kick your ass, you have to be savvy and use your skills and health wisely. Learn the Technodrome surroundings and you'll come up victorious.
To wrap things up, yes the game is difficult, yes some of the things in the game don't make much sense but you have to tell yourself, it's just a game. Deal with it or just don't play, don't just bitch about it just because you can't beat it. I was able to beat this game when I was six for god's sake! If I was able to do it twenty years ago, I don't see why you can't do it now after all nothing in the game has changed, we have just gotten used to games kissing our ass for us. Cowabunga!
Moving on, there have been claims that men must have a feeling of accomplishment on their hands and the last thing they want to do is get beaten by their girlfriend. Hmmm that does make sense but it still doesn't apply to the entire picture as there are guys(like me) who likes getting beat up by a girl(in video games of course, well in some other things as well but I won't go into that...). Furthermore, it's crucial for the man to feel like a man and be the dominant gamer so to speak. He must retain his throne even though he might get beat up playing online and in the last places of every online tournament ever held, he must be the top player of his home. There have also been claims that these geeky girls don't like to act girly at all and are more boyish than feminine...hmm well you got me on that one as there are quite a few out there like that but come on, make your conclusion when you see the girl naked please, that's still a woman. I personally find this ridiculous as there are boyish girls in every different “label” you can think of. Furthermore, girls will always be girls unless gay of course, which reminds me that there are a vast amount gamer girls that only like gamer girls...is that wrong? It's called lesbianism people! Let them be and move on! Going back to the point of a girl looking boyish, if you ask me, I don't find that bothersome at all as that girl can be your playing buddy in bed and in the screen...can you ask for more? Of course, there are those guys that are always looking for that “hot” girl with curves and what not but you have to face reality, chances are you are going to be getting into relationships you won't be happy in the first place and will end up hurt beyond belief, even gay if it's really serious. I suggest you look at them in other ways than the outside, really, are you that shallow? You have to look at yourself before judging and criticizing someone else. Anyways, you also have the other type of guys that rather keep their gaming life away from their relationship and therefore date and are with girls that don't know what a NES is. I'm not saying this is bad or anything because if it works then why not. I'm just saying that you have to know what you are getting into and stop lying to yourself if you are not going to be happy in the relation in the first place. Do you guys even know how turned on I get when a girl talks to me about retro gaming? That's just awesome because we can have a conversation for hours and hours on something we both love and cherish, I guess you can't have that with a girl that has no idea what you are talking about but in the end it's not all about connecting with video games. We are all different in what we are looking in our lives and should be careful before portraying people as a bad stereotype and going with everyone else opinions and just count your own. In the end, just go with what fits, dating a girl that likes video games or not has both it's positives and negatives so to confine them all with just a theory would not be the smartest thing to do.
To conclude, my whole point is to protect all these girls getting bashed by bad stereotypes and open these guys eyes to the beauty any person can have on the inside. There are many things out there that are more important than looks so get to it! I know would date a gamer girl, would you?
