Finds 2087: Gifts from a Chum, Yu-gi-oh! Madness!

Every once in a while, a completely unexpected gift finds its way into the collection, and this latest addition is a pretty awesome one! A co-worker of mine recently decided to pass along some Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game goodies, and naturally, I wasn't going to say no.

This is exactly the kind of surprise that makes collecting so much fun. You never quite know what someone might have tucked away!

A Double Dose of Legendary Duelists

The first big addition is a sealed box of Yu-Gi-Oh! Legendary Duelists: Synchro Storm. The green packaging immediately stands out, featuring Yugo and his WIND-based Synchro monsters.

The set is particularly fun for fans of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V eras, with plenty of Synchro-themed cards and familiar characters and strategies represented.

And then there's another sealed box of Yu-Gi-Oh! Brothers of Legend.

The colorful pink-and-purple box has a completely different look from Synchro Storm, featuring the adorable Kuriboh-like monsters on the artwork. Brothers of Legend is one of those sets that feels like a celebration of different corners of Yu-Gi-Oh!, bringing together cards and themes from across the franchise.

Having two sealed booster boxes arrive as a gift was definitely a pleasant surprise!

And Then There Are the Tins...

But the booster boxes aren't the only interesting pieces here.

Behind them are a couple of gold-and-black Egyptian-themed Yu-Gi-Oh! tins, and these might actually be my favorite part of the haul. The engraved-looking artwork and hieroglyphic-style decorations give them a fantastic ancient-Egyptian aesthetic that fits perfectly with Yu-Gi-Oh!'s original mythology.

Even if you aren't using them to store cards, these kinds of tins make great display pieces for a collection.

The Best Kind of Find

What makes this addition particularly cool isn't just the Yu-Gi-Oh! merchandise itself. It's the fact that these came from a co-worker who was kind enough to give them away.

There's something special about collecting items that come with a story. Instead of simply buying another couple of boxes online, these now have a little bit of personal history attached to them: a co-worker had some Yu-Gi-Oh! goodies and decided to pass them along.

Those unexpected gifts can sometimes become some of the most memorable pieces in a collection.

And, of course, there's always the temptation when you see sealed booster boxes sitting there...

Do I keep them sealed, or do I open them?

That's the eternal collector's dilemma. 😅

For now, I'm enjoying the sight of these colorful Yu-Gi-Oh! boxes sitting alongside those awesome Egyptian-themed tins. Whether they eventually get opened or remain sealed, they've already earned a spot in the collection.

A huge thank you to my co-worker for the awesome gift! It's definitely one heck of a Yu-Gi-Oh! haul, and another great addition to the ongoing Finds series.

What would you do?

Would you keep the booster boxes sealed, or would you rip them open and see what cards are hiding inside?

Let me know in the comments!

Finds 2082: A Yu-Gi-Oh! Haul Featuring One of My Favorite Cards!

There’s nothing quite like finding a great deal on some classic Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and this latest addition to the collection definitely delivered. This haul brought home a few new cards, several packs of Yu-Gi-Oh! Chaos Origins, and—most importantly—one card that has a special place in my personal favorites list.

Meet my 1st Edition Ultimate Rare Elemental HERO Bubbleman!

One of My Favorite Cards Ever

The absolute highlight of this haul is the 1st Edition Ultimate Rare Bubbleman.

Elemental HERO Bubbleman has always been one of my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and owning an Ultimate Rare version makes this pickup even more special. The Ultimate Rare treatment gives the card that fantastic textured appearance that makes these older Yu-Gi-Oh! cards so much fun to collect.

And then there’s the fact that this is 1st Edition. For a collector, that little stamp can make an already desirable card feel even more special.

Bubbleman also brings back a lot of nostalgia from the classic Elemental HERO era of Yu-Gi-Oh!, making this much more than simply another card going into a binder. It's one of those cards that I can look at and immediately think, Yep, this is exactly why I love collecting Yu-Gi-Oh!

More Cards for the Collection

The Bubbleman wasn't the only card coming home with me. There are a couple of other cards pictured alongside it, adding even more variety to the collection.

Part of the fun of collecting Yu-Gi-Oh! is that you never quite know what you're going to stumble across when looking through someone's cards. Sometimes you're hunting for a specific card, and other times you find something you weren't expecting that ends up becoming the best part of the haul.

That's definitely what happened here with Bubbleman.

And Then There Were Packs!

Of course, no Yu-Gi-Oh! haul would be complete without some packs to open!

This pickup also included several packs of Yu-Gi-Oh! Chaos Origins. Seeing a stack of unopened packs is always dangerous for a collector because there's only one thing you really want to do when you see them:

Open them!

That's one of the things I love about trading card collecting. Even when you already have cards you're excited about, opening a sealed pack creates a completely different kind of excitement.

You start wondering what could be inside. Will there be a card you need? A great-looking Ultra or Secret Rare? Maybe something unexpected that immediately earns a place in the collection?

And, of course, there will probably be some duplicates along the way—but that's part of the fun!

The Best Kind of Collection Find

This haul really has a little bit of everything I enjoy about collecting.

There are cards with nostalgic value, unopened packs waiting to be ripped open, and a standout card that has genuine personal meaning to me.

The 1st Edition Ultimate Rare Elemental HERO Bubbleman is easily the star of the show. It's one of my favorite cards ever, and finding a copy like this makes the pickup feel that much more rewarding.

Now the big question is...

Do I open all those Chaos Origins packs, or keep a few sealed?

Knowing me, there's a pretty good chance they'll get opened eventually. 😄

Another great find for the Retro Gaming Life collection—and proof that sometimes the best pickups aren't always video games!

What’s a card that you’ve always considered one of your personal favorites? Let me know!

Finds 2081: Double Dragon Advance and Ghost Rare Red Eyes Black Dragon

Finds #2081: Double Dragon Advance and a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon

The latest additions to the Retro Gaming Life collection bring together two very different kinds of retro collectibles, but both are guaranteed to get the attention of collectors: a boxed copy of Double Dragon Advance for the Game Boy Advance and a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game.

One takes us back to the days of portable 2D beat-'em-ups, while the other brings some serious trading-card nostalgia to the collection. Let's take a closer look at both!

Double Dragon Advance

First up is Double Dragon Advance for the Game Boy Advance.

Originally released in North America in November 2003, Double Dragon Advance was developed by Million and published by Atlus. Rather than being a simple port of the 1987 arcade classic, the game is essentially a remake that combines elements from the original arcade game with ideas, moves, enemies, weapons, and stages from other entries in the Double Dragon series.

That makes this a particularly interesting game for a collection.

The original Double Dragon helped establish the side-scrolling beat-'em-up as one of the defining arcade genres of the late 1980s. Double Dragon Advance takes that formula and squeezes it onto Nintendo's Game Boy Advance while adding plenty of new material.

Players can take control of Billy or Jimmy Lee and battle their way through the game, with multiplayer support available through the Game Link Cable. The game also includes a Survival Mode, giving players another way to put their fighting skills to the test.

A Love Letter to the Original

One of the coolest things about Double Dragon Advance is how much attention was given to the history of the series.

The game includes four new stages that were inserted between stages from the original arcade game. It also introduces additional enemies and moves inspired by other Double Dragon games and Technōs beat-'em-ups.

Even the box artwork has a fun connection to classic martial-arts cinema. The pose of Billy and Jimmy on the cover was designed as an homage to Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in The Way of the Dragon.

So while it may look like another Game Boy Advance release at first glance, Double Dragon Advance is actually a pretty substantial celebration of the franchise.

And finding a boxed copy like this makes it an even nicer addition to the collection.

Red-Eyes Black Dragon — Ghost Rare!

The other addition might be even more eye-catching: a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon!

Red-Eyes Black Dragon is one of the most recognizable monsters in the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. Along with Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician, Red-Eyes has been one of the iconic monsters associated with the series since the early days of the trading card game.

This particular card is the Red-Eyes Black Dragon Ghost Rare from Ghosts From the Past: The 2nd Haunting, card GFP2-EN176. The set was released in 2022, and Red-Eyes was one of the classic monsters to receive the Ghost Rare treatment in the set.

And Ghost Rare is an especially cool rarity for collectors.

What Makes Ghost Rare Special?

Ghost Rare cards have a distinctive appearance that makes them stand out from virtually everything else in a Yu-Gi-Oh! collection.

The artwork has a silvery, almost ghost-like appearance and can look dramatically different depending on the angle and lighting. The card's name also has a pearlescent appearance. TCGplayer describes Ghost Rare as one of Yu-Gi-Oh!'s most prestigious collector rarities.

The rarity originally debuted in the 2007 Tactical Evolution set, and Ghost Rares quickly became some of the most desirable chase cards for collectors.

The Ghosts From the Past: The 2nd Haunting version of Red-Eyes is particularly fun because it takes such a classic monster and gives it an appearance that is completely different from the traditional Red-Eyes cards many fans remember from the early 2000s.

A Great Combination of Collectibles

I really like how these two additions represent different sides of retro gaming and collecting.

On one side, we have Double Dragon Advance, a physical Game Boy Advance game that connects directly to the arcade and 8-bit era of gaming. It takes a classic franchise and gives it a new life on a handheld system.

On the other side, we have Red-Eyes Black Dragon, representing the collectible-card side of the retro gaming and pop-culture world. For anyone who grew up with Yu-Gi-Oh!, seeing a Ghost Rare version of such an iconic monster is pretty special.

And there's something particularly satisfying about adding both a boxed Game Boy Advance game and a high-rarity Yu-Gi-Oh! card to the collection at the same time.

Another Fantastic Find!

Double Dragon Advance is already a great game to have in the collection, but finding a boxed copy makes this particular addition even better. Add in a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon, and this becomes one of those Finds that has a little bit of everything.

The Game Boy Advance represents an important part of Nintendo's handheld history, while Red-Eyes Black Dragon represents one of the most recognizable collectible card games of its generation.

Two different collectibles, two different forms of nostalgia, and two more great additions to Retro Gaming Life!

Which one would you choose for your collection: the boxed Double Dragon Advance or the Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon? Let me know in the comments!

And as always, stay tuned for the next Finds post, because there are always more games, collectibles, and retro treasures waiting to join the collection!

Keep gaming and keep collecting!

Finds 2068: Yu-Gi-Oh! Battles of Legend Box

Yu-Gi-Oh! Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery – A Shiny New Addition

There’s nothing quite like adding a fresh booster box to the collection, and this time it’s the eye-catching Yu-Gi-Oh! Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery. Right away, the artwork on the box pops with vibrant colors and fan-favorite monsters, setting the tone for what this set is all about—flashy cards, nostalgia, and pure collector appeal.

Released in 2023 by Konami, the Glorious Gallery set continues the “Battles of Legend” tradition of focusing less on competitive structure and more on high-rarity reprints and stunning alternate artworks. It’s the kind of set that feels like a treasure chest for collectors rather than just a standard expansion.

What Makes This Set Special?

One of the biggest draws of Glorious Gallery is its guaranteed foil-heavy experience. Unlike older sets where pulling something shiny felt rare, here almost every card has that premium feel.

Highlights include:

  • Gorgeous Secret Rare and Ultra Rare finishes
  • Unique alternate art versions of iconic monsters
  • Popular reprints that make hard-to-find cards accessible again
  • A strong focus on visual appeal over meta play

For collectors, it’s basically a dream—every pack feels valuable.

The Fun Factor: Cracking Open Packs

Let’s be honest—the real magic happens when you start opening packs.

That foil shimmer hits instantly. Each pack has that suspense:
What’s the big pull going to be? A nostalgic favorite? A jaw-dropping alternate art?

Opening this set feels different from typical expansions:

  • There’s less disappointment since most cards look amazing
  • Every pull has binder-worthy potential
  • It leans heavily into that “just one more pack” feeling

Even if you’re not chasing competitive cards, the excitement comes from the presentation and surprise. It’s the kind of box you open slowly… or tear through in one sitting because you can’t stop.

A Collector’s Perspective

As a new addition to the collection, this box stands out for its display value alone. Sealed, it looks fantastic. Opened, it fills binders with some of the most visually striking cards in the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game lineup.

It’s also a reminder of how far the game has come—from simple early prints to these highly stylized, premium designs.

Final Thoughts

Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery isn’t just a set—it’s an experience. Whether you’re a longtime duelist or just love collecting, it delivers that nostalgic thrill with a modern, polished twist.

And really, that’s what makes it such a great pickup for the collection:
👉 It looks amazing on the shelf
👉 It’s incredibly fun to open
👉 And it keeps that classic Yu-Gi-Oh pack-opening excitement alive

If you’re into collecting, this is one of those boxes that reminds you exactly why you started.

Finds 1652: Peru Trip 2022 Haul! Amazing clones and games! Boxed Clones!!

Here is all the amazing loot I got from my trip to Peru. this time around, after seven years since my last trip, a lot has changed. You can’t find good loot that easy anymore or at least what I’m looking for to add to my collection but I did get lucky with a couple of things. Let’s take a look at t all this amazing loot!

SNES games are still around so here are some that I got. The ISS Deluxe is legit but beat up. The rest are bootlegs with the circuit boards which means they are higher quality.

Here are some Famicom games. Some legit and some are bootleg which are my specialty.

Here are some Spanish Yu-gi-oh! cards! I am going to open them soon!

Here are some new items! Epic!

Max Play is a clone which was really popular in Latin America, this console is also known as the Micro Genius in other regions. It’s a really awesome well built console.

Here are some Wolfenstein 3D stickers! They are really awesome but I don’t know where to put them yet. I’ll find a spot!

Finds 1648: Mexico Trip 2022 More Loot!

Here are some more findings in Mexico City. I found a nice NES bootleg that gives more questions than answers. Also, another bootleg TMNT figure and some Spanish Yu-gi-oh! Trading cards. A nice haul!

Finds 1594: Ojama King Ultimate Rare

I got this beautiful card at the event I went to last weekend and I'm so happy with it. As many of you might know, I love Ultimate rares and this is something I needed to add to the collection. I might also just build an Ojama deck for the heck of it. It's such an annoying archetype which perfectly coincides with my personality.

Pocky & Rocky has been a game I used to play when a friend lend it to me. Who knew how much fun it would be! I totally love it! I'm just so happy to get the game back. I would love to have the sequel, but it's insanely expensive! I will however hold up and hope one cheap beat up copy appears at some point. Also, Silent Magician card is just beautiful. She's gorgeous!
