DOS Games

Here you will find a database of DOS abandoneware that I would like to share with all the classic gamers out there. Lets build a big library of games!

2400 A.D.

In Origin's first science fiction RPG and a precursor to Space Rogue, you are chosen by the beleaguered resistance on planet XK-120 to lead the revolution against sinister robot oppressors. Restore freedom to the city of Metropolis by fighting robot enemies, explore cities, and find a way to disable the robot's central control. The skill-based gameplay foreshadows Interplay's classic Wasteland, although much more simplistic.
Overall, a noble effort for its time that would soon be surpassed by better descendants, although the game's humor and fun gadgets would keep you enthralled for hours. This game also deserves notice as Chuck "Chuckle" Bueche's first design for Origin. Thumbs up!

Ancients I

Shareware goes deep underground with this fantasy role-playing quest from Epic MegaGames and Farr-Ware. Lead your party of four explorers through the city of Locklaven and into the dungeons beneath. Match wits against some of the most dangerous monsters on this side of Dungeons and Dragons. In Ancients I: The Deathwatch, your characters journey through many lands, battling with monsters and interacting with strange people you'll meet along the way.

Blake Stone
This is a very awesome FPS that should be given a shot. You play as this agent in which you must infiltrate and fight aliens and scientists! It's really a joy to try.

Captain Comic
Here is a really cool side scroller game. It's a smaller pace one, but that doesn't mean it's boring. Definitely try this one out.

Chronicles of Gaia: The First Mission

Chronicles of Galia: The First Mission is a turn-based RPG created in QBasic. The plot involves retrieving a stolen artifact that is critical to a kingdom's peace and prosperity. Your character is a knight who no longer wants to fight due to a past trauma, but is forced into action. The game is presented quite well, with decently drawn tile-based graphics and an actual storyline which draws you in. There is saving at save points (look for purple crystals) and turn-based random battles in the outer areas. Gold is of course collected and used to buy items and upgrades. Overall it seems to be a well-designed RPG especially given that it was made entirely in QBasic!

Clyde's Adventure
This is a really fun game in which you must collect gems but be sure not to run out of energy! Can you help Clyde in his adventure??

DB Quest

DBQuest is seemingly the most well-known game created using the DCGames game creation system. It is an RPG that includes 256-color graphics and a large world to explore, with 75 NPCs to talk with and a large number of areas to traverse. You begin at your own home, and quickly find the castle nearby with the king & queen inside, who give you a quest to find an amulet to save their ill son. Typical RPG fare. Monsters are visible on the map, where you also fight them without transitioning to a separate battle screen. The graphics align pretty closely to the Ultima games.

Dragons of Flame

Heroes of the Lance, Dragons of Flame, and Shadow Sorcerer are three releases in SSI's series of action/RPG games that are based on AD&D's "Dragonlance" fantasy world.

Unlike the "Gold Box" series, games in this series are basically side-scrolling platformers with a fantasy story. The party consists of the 8 "Heroes of the Lance", although you can control only one at a time with the option of switching between them whenever you want to. Since each hero has different types of attacks and spells, choosing the right hero to fight each enemy type is essential.

Pleasant graphics despite a drab palette and interesting storyline (based mostly on novels/modules written by Weiss/Hickman) make this series worth a look by AD&D fans, although RPG fans may find the games too repetitive.

Electro Man
In Electro Man, you'll explore a futuristic space station, making your way through thought-puzzles and quick-reflex arcade sequences! The full version of Electro Man contains 6 episodes and requires approximately 20 hours to solve.

Heretic
Here is another gem you have to try out. It's a magical style FPS that plays a lot like DOOM. Use magical weapons to fight demons and survive this wonderful world. Highly recommended.

Hocus Pocus

Here is another classic side scroller. Hocus Pocus definitely brings a lot of classic and solid gameplay to the PC library. A must play for any side scroller fan. A true classic

Mysterious Song

Mysterious Song borrows its style heavily from early console RPG games made by Square and Enix. (If you've played any of the Final Fantasy Super NES games, you'll be at home here.) The story and gameplay are basically standard fare with turn-based battles, but if you enjoy fantasy-style RPG games and are looking for a new adventure to play, this could be a good choice. In recent years, it seems like this game was ported to both the SNES and the TG-16 consoles. The zip file includes source code, which may be one of the reasons it was ported.

Onesimus: a Quest for Freedom

This game is a lot of fun and plays a lot like Jill of the Jungle. I highly recommend it especially if you are into solid platformers for old computers. You can also learn some Bible history with it. Win win right?

The Incredible Machine
Are you ready to put a bunch of gadgets and items together and make it all work? Well, here is the Incredible Machine! A classic!

Warrior Dragon
This is a very neat game that plays like Dragon Quest. It's a lot of fun and believe it or not, it works from DOS to the latest Windows 10 PC. It's super compatible. Be sure to enjoy this amazing adventure as you play as a Dragon!
