Forgotten Finds #17 – Chaos Control Meets Rugrats on the NES!

Welcome back to Forgotten Finds, the series where I spotlight the unique, obscure, and nostalgic additions to my retro gaming collection. For post #17, I've got a pair of pickups that couldn't be more different, yet both capture a fascinating era of gaming history.

Chaos Control (Philips CD-i)

First up is Chaos Control for the Philips CD-i, one of the most unusual home consoles ever released. Developed by Infogrames, this full-motion video (FMV) rail shooter puts players in the role of a futuristic soldier battling robotic enemies across a dystopian city.

While the CD-i never achieved mainstream success, it became known for experimenting with multimedia gaming long before it became common. Chaos Control is a great example of the console's ambition, blending digitized visuals with arcade-style action. It's a title that many gamers have never experienced, making it a fun and interesting piece to own for any retro collection.

Rugrats: Revision for the NES

On the other side of today's finds is something truly unexpected—a Rugrats game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Since the Rugrats television series debuted years after the NES had already reached the end of its commercial lifespan, this isn't an official retail release. Instead, it's a fan-made ROM hack/reproduction cartridge that reimagines the classic console with characters from Nickelodeon's beloved cartoon.

It's always exciting to see what talented members of the retro gaming community create. ROM hacks like this breathe new life into classic hardware by combining familiar gameplay with completely different worlds and characters. Whether you're a Rugrats fan, an NES enthusiast, or simply enjoy collecting unique homebrew and reproduction releases, this is certainly an eye-catching addition.

Two Very Different Pieces of Gaming History

That's what makes collecting retro games so much fun. One day you find a forgotten commercial release from an experimental console, and the next you discover a creative fan-made project that never could have existed during the NES's original lifespan.

Forgotten Finds #16 Random Items + Diabolical Mario Doll!

So here were a new forgotten finds and these finds are actually finds I have gotten recently but forgot to showcase them to the public!


First we have this Nintendo 64 controller made by performance....yeah it's made by them and well to my experience they are not that reliable. I have broken around five performance Playstation controllers and the reason was because of a cheap design as well as my rage among the lame control grip of the device. I will give this one a chance though. I paid two dollars for it thinking it was the official Nintendo golden controller but I was wayyyyyy wrong....



Next we have a DDR game that I won by mistake on Ebay. I really didn't wanted this game but I guess it's mine now. I haven't tried it out but the disc looks great. I hope they have some hip music!




Finally, we have a Mario doll that looks to be possessed! I always seem to place this doll in my bookcase and find it in the floor in the morning. Was this evil being trying to walk and strangle me? Or was this creature trying to tell me the secret of gaming? Who knows! All I know is that he looks kinda of freaky without his hat, then again, I tried to picture him with his hat on and it doesn't make any difference. This doll is freaky and alive but I must have it to help protect my collection! (not really)

Forgotten Finds #15 GBA SP NES Edition

So here is finally a new forgotten finds! It has been months since the last one and finally decided to post a new entry. The main point of Forgotten Finds is to show finds from the past that came prior to the birth of this blog. This is a way I can show you some neat finds from wayyyyy before the blog came along.


This time around is the GBA SP NES edition. I remember looking at one of these at gamestop and wished I had one in my hands. Well some years later the NDS was out and the SP prices lowered so I decided to search ebay and found one that was going for a pretty good price. I remember paying around fifty dollars for this one so I was glad to finally have it. I don't use it that much since I like to show it to friends instead of playing with it. Overall, it's a great addition to anyone's collection specially NES collectors. I would recommend it as well as the Famicom 20th anniversary Gameboy Micro which I have as well. I'll probably make an entry of that one in the future. I just wished I bought the NES edition one complete with box....

Forgotten Finds #14 Famiclone CIB

This is a find I had about a year and a half ago I never showed anywhere well expect in some collection photos but still. This is a Famiclone that looks a lot like a Famicom unlike other Famiclones. I was never able to get this one to work though because it didn't came with the cables it needed to get to work and I checked out Radio Shack and they wanted around 30 dollars for the cables I was looking for to make it work. It wasn't worth it but I hope that someday I'll get it to work because it does bring 52 built in games and I'm still wondering which ones they are.

Forgotten Finds #13 TMNT 1 & 2

Well this is not a find I would pass out but it's been one I've forgotten for a while until now. Well here are TMNT 1 and 2 for the Famicom. Believe it or not these are not the TMNT 1 and 2 we know from the NES because TMNT 1 for the NES was named differently for the Famicom release. Therefore TMNT 1 and 2 are really TMNT 2 and 3 from the NES series. I hope I didn't got you confused but that's just how it is. Finally, enjoy the photo!

Forgotten Finds #11 Mario 8

This is probably one of the most wonderful Forgotten Finds entries because it's about a game that meant a lot to me back in the day. The game is none other than the pirate cart Super Mario Bros 8! Back in my childhood in Peru there were game rooms where you would pay to play in hourly sessions and of course, I would go there every day and try to beat as many games as possible. Some of the games involved Master Fighter which is a port of Street Fighter to play on the NES. There was also Super Mario World, Captain Tsubasa 3, TMNT 2, and many more all in their pirate forms. I would play Mario 8 as many times as possible but was never able to beat it. Well now it's over fifteen years later and I was able to get a copy as a birthday gift from a great friend of mine. The first day that I got the game I played it through either times to the ending. I was actually going to play it again but my wife got fed up watching me play it. I guess I did played it too many times lol. Anyways, I don't play the game that much anymore but I do pop the game in once in a while for the nostalgic memories that still remain from the past.

Forgotten Finds #10 TMNT Pirate

Well here we are to start the year with a forgotten find entry. Again, the point of forgotten finds is to show finds I've never really talked about or showed in many places. It's always fun to go back and check out photos of some of the most interesting games I've added to my collection. Anyhow, this time around we have my precious TMNT 2 pirate cart! Isn't the label awesome? I played this game back when I was six years old and was blown away by the game. I was able to finally get a copy of this cart when it came up on ebay and was determined to bid until I won it. I only ended up bidding five dollars and won it with two heheh so it wasn't that expensive in the end. This pirate cart also starts you with five turtles and you are also stronger so you can defeat the foot soldiers with more easy(one jump kick woot). So that's about it, I do have more entries I'm working on but I'm heading to bed too tired....

Forgotten Finds #9

In this entry of forgotten finds I came upon a find in a thrift store in South Beach. It's a place where you mainly find clothes and old records but this time around they had some games and it's rare since I have been there plenty of times and have come up empty. This was my lucky day as I walked out with these goodies for less than ten bucks. The biggest score was probably Final Fantasy VIII because of the black label and all. The discs looked like they were never played and the instruction booklet is intact. GTA3 was another game I wanted to check off my list and I was finally able to get a copy of this gruesome game. Forgotten Finds #8

Back in the June, 2008 I was able to acquire this lot of games all for the disk system and all pirates! Yeah, this nice haul gave me endless hours of fun and still do once in a while when I can get my disk system out to play. There are some notables that come in this lot like Pacman and Kung Fu and there are others that have very unique perspectives. Overall, a nice find especially since I only paid five bucks for each. Forgotten Finds #7

Here is one of the more interesting multi carts for the Famicom. This cart contains the following games: Pokemon Green, Spartan X2, Chip n Dale 2, and Recca! Yeah this cart has a copy of the exclusive Summer Carnival 92 Recca! It's an amazing game like no other. Not only it's rare to find this in cart but it's also a very good game that takes the NES capabilities to its limits. This game for those of you who have no idea what it is, is a shooter that goes at massive speeds both in gameplay and space. This cart is truly a great addition to my collection. Well the other games are very unique as well like Pokemon Green which is a hack of a Hello Kitty game. In the Pokemon game you play as Clefable and you have to I guess kill forrest monsters and reach the boss fights. Clefable is green for some reason so that gave it away since in the original game you have to play as the frog. The other game is Spartan X2 which is an awesome side scroller. For those of you this is the sequel that never made it to the US shores of the game Kung Fu. Spartan X2 plays like Kung Fu but with improved graphics and better gameplay. It only has four stages but each of them are very challenging unless you play on easy that is. The last game is Chip n Dale 2 which was released in the US. It's a game that you can have a lot of a fun with a friend so it's all good stuff in this cart. Well that's about it for now, gotta get some rest so until next time.

Forgotten Finds #6

Here is a great lot I got from craiglist a while ago. It's a fully working Saturn with some games. I paid ten dollars for it so it was really worth it. It even came with a gun and a memory card. One of the games that is worth a lot is The House of The Dead which costs around 130.00 dollars and up. You can search it on ebay and find different price ranges but I found out that the average is what I just mentioned. That's about it for this find, I'm happy to have a Saturn finally!

Forgotten Finds #5

Here is a very interesting lot. I have for the first time an strategy guide! It's for the game Super Mario Bros 3 and also in Japanese. It's great to see the pages even though I don't know what it says but in the future I will be able to read them. Anyways, there are also some kewl multi carts in here with some great games in them like the Kunios and Samurai Pizza Cats. Speaking of the Samurai Pizza Cats, I was able to beat the game last night without losing a life. The ending is very enjoyable but I won't spoil it for anyone. Forgotten Finds #4

Here are a couple of finds I snagged from Nintendo Age some months ago. These were pretty nice pick ups since I never had a pirate Super Famicom cart and this one is CIB! Yeah a CIB Super Famicom pirate cart doesn't come by often. The games that come in it are well pretty explainable if you look at the box. If you still don't know the titles are Super Mario World, Gradius 3, Super Smash TV, and Super Tennis. The titles themselves tell me that this cart was released during the first year of the Super Famicom.

The other cart (top right) is a Famicom multicart with some good games in it. The usual games come in it like Galaga, Contra, Mappy, etc. You'll also find Bobble Bubble in this cart which is a big plus. There are some other great games but I forgot which they were, I haven't played them in a while.


The final cart is the usual 32 games in 1 and yeah it does contain 32 unique games. They were kind enough to place the gambler girl from the Samurai Kunio game in it. Anyways, in this cart you get the usual Adventure Island, Goonies, Contra, Tank 90 game among others.

Forgotten Finds #3

This time around I'm going to go back a few months back to talk about a boxed pirate cart find. This is a pretty nifty and interesting cart. For example, the box has the word "TV-Game" upside down! The pirates must have been way too lazy to even care about the upside down scenario. Anyways, the cart comes with games such as TMNT 2, Super Contra, Double Dragon 3, and even a Robocop game. Overall, it was a pretty nice pick up for my collection since it only cost me three dollars.

Forgotten Finds #2

Well here are some pretty kewl finds I got a while ago. They are the gameboy titles Dig Dug, Ducktales 2, and R-Type. Please just ignore the other carts since I'm only focusing on these three. Overall, I liked R-Type the best because of it's classic shooter gameplay. Ducktales 2 came in second because of the good old side scrolling action and finally Dig Dug was the least favorite of the bunch. Don't get me wrong, Dig Dug is a great classic game but I for some reason can never and have never gotten into it. To conclude, these games were a nice pick up to my small gameboy collection. If I remember correctly, I paid four dollars for this lot so not bad at all huh? That's about it for now, cya next time.

Forgotten Finds #1

This is a new series of blog entries with the purpose to show finds I never talked about but are worth mentioning.



Behold are the pirate carts Street Fighter IV and Adventure Island 2. These were a nice addition to my pirate Famicom collection because of Street Fighter IV. The game is really hard to come by making it rare but also it's a rare game that's worth every penny because it's one of the best fighters for the Famicom. This game is so great you can even fight using the playboy bunnies! It's a nice addition to anyone that wants something different to play on their Famicom as well as rare. Adventure Island 2 is also unique since it lets you pick the island you start on. You also get a lot more lives! It's great to get a little help from the pirates....
