🎮 Finds: A Few PlayStation & PSP Treasures from GameStop

The latest trip to GameStop has added a few more pieces to the Retro Gaming Life collection—and this time, we're taking a trip back to the world of PlayStation.

The latest haul isn't huge, but that's part of the fun of collecting. Sometimes the best finds are the little additions that fill out the collection, provide some nostalgia, or introduce us to something we've never encountered before.

Here's what came home this time.

🎮 A Classic PlayStation Controller

First up is an original-style Sony PlayStation controller.

Few controllers are more recognizable than this one. The gray design, familiar D-pad, four iconic PlayStation face buttons, and analog sticks immediately bring back memories of the original PlayStation era.

Controllers are easy to overlook when talking about retro collections, but they're an important part of the experience. After all, what's a console without something to play it with?

Finding an additional PlayStation controller also means another piece of the original hardware ecosystem gets preserved alongside the games themselves.

🕹️ A Third-Party PlayStation Controller

The second controller is a little different.

This third-party PlayStation-compatible controller has the familiar PlayStation layout while offering its own take on the classic design.

Third-party accessories are always interesting additions to a retro collection because they tell another part of the story. Not everyone played with the controller that came in the box. Stores were filled with alternatives promising extra features, different designs, longer cables, and sometimes questionable improvements.

That's part of what makes collecting this stuff interesting today.

The official hardware tells us what Sony intended.

The third-party hardware tells us what everyone else was doing with it.

The most unusual find of the bunch is Konami's Online Chess Kingdoms for the PSP.

The cover certainly makes it stand out, with its elaborate fantasy artwork and dramatic presentation. It's a great example of the wonderfully diverse library the PSP accumulated during its lifespan.

While the PSP had plenty of major franchises and blockbuster releases, there were also plenty of less-talked-about titles like this one.

And those are often the games that make hunting for retro games so rewarding.

You can walk into a store looking for something familiar and walk out with something you've barely heard of.

That's a Find.

This is what makes trips to places like GameStop fun for collectors.

You never quite know what you'll find.

Maybe you'll discover a game you've been searching for. Maybe an accessory catches your eye. Or perhaps you'll find something that simply makes you stop and think:

"I haven't seen one of those in years."

The latest additions may not be the rarest items in the collection, but they don't need to be.

They're pieces of gaming history.

They're reminders of different eras of PlayStation.

And most importantly, they're things that are fun to bring home, clean up, play, display, and talk about.

🐾 Mouser Finds #001: Floppies, Switch Boxes & a Robot!

Retro Gaming Life’s newest treasure-hunting correspondent has arrived.

Welcome to the premiere edition of Mouser Finds, a brand-new feature here at Retro Gaming Life where one very special retro enthusiast searches the world for forgotten gaming treasures, weird old tech, and anything else that makes our retro-loving hearts beat a little faster.

And who better to lead the hunt than Mouser the Retro Cat?

She may have four paws, whiskers, and a serious case of resting judgment face, but Mouser has an excellent eye for retro goodies. For her very first expedition, she came across a collection that proves you don't need a rare console or expensive cartridge to have a fantastic retro find.

📼 Find #1: A Box of Floppies

First up, Mouser discovered not one, but two boxes of 3M Imation High Density 3.5-inch floppy disks.

If you grew up with computers in the '90s and early 2000s, these are instantly recognizable. Before USB drives, cloud storage, and gigantic hard drives, a little plastic disk could feel like a technological miracle.

And for retro gamers, floppy disks have a special place in history.

They carried computer games, save files, utilities, mods, shareware, and all sorts of digital treasures. A 1.44 MB floppy might sound hilariously tiny today, but back then it was enough to hold something you actually needed—and the satisfying click of sliding one into a floppy drive is pure nostalgia.

Mouser's verdict?

"Still more reliable than trusting the cat with your save files."

She's got a point.

🎮 Find #2: The S-Video/AV System Selector

Next up is perhaps the most immediately exciting find for a retro gamer: an S-Video/AV System Selector.

The packaging advertises compatibility with systems including the Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, N64, Dreamcast, DVD/VCR players, and CD players.

Anyone who has ever owned a pile of retro consoles knows exactly why something like this was useful.

Instead of constantly crawling behind the television to swap cables every time you wanted to change systems, a selector box let you keep multiple devices connected at once.

And there's something wonderfully authentic about the packaging. The purple-and-black design, the CRT television illustration, the list of compatible systems—it's a perfect little snapshot of the era when the entertainment center could contain a PlayStation 2, GameCube, Dreamcast, VCR, DVD player, and probably three remotes you could never identify.

Today, modern HDMI switchers have made this kind of hardware much less glamorous.

But for a retro setup?

This is exactly the kind of oddball accessory that belongs in the collection.

Mouser approves.

Mostly because it gives her another box to sit next to.

🤖 Find #3: ROBOT!

And then there's the robot.

Because every good treasure hunt needs a robot.

The colorful transforming robot in Mouser's haul looks like it came straight out of the golden age of transforming toys. With its bright red, blue, yellow, and silver parts, it certainly knows how to make an entrance.

Is it gaming-related?

Not necessarily.

Does that matter?

Absolutely not.

One of the things we love about collecting retro is that the hobby isn't really limited to consoles and cartridges. Old toys, electronics, computer hardware, advertisements, accessories, and forgotten pieces of pop culture all help tell the story of the era.

And frankly, if Mouser finds a robot, Mouser shows us the robot.

That's the rule.

So what did our newest Retro Gaming Life correspondent bring home from her first adventure?

✔ Two boxes of 3.5-inch high-density floppy disks

And that's really what Mouser Finds is all about.

Finds 2084 PS1 Epicness!

There is nothing quite like finding classic PlayStation games while out thrifting, especially when the prices are this good! During one of my recent thrifting adventures, I came across not one, but four PlayStation 1 games, all priced at just $1.99 each!

That is definitely a deal I could not pass up.

The haul included Tiger Shark, Driver 2, Tomba!, and Tomb Raider. Finding PS1 games in the wild is always exciting, but discovering several titles at once for under $2 each made this one of those thrift store finds that immediately puts a smile on your face.

Tomb Raider is a legendary part of PlayStation history and a game that helped define the original PlayStation era. Driver 2 is another classic that brought plenty of action and driving mayhem to the system. Tiger Shark adds some arcade-style action to the collection, while Tomba! is the standout surprise of the group. Tomba! has become a highly sought-after cult classic over the years, making this especially exciting to find while thrifting.

At a total of only $7.96 before tax, I walked away with four pieces of PlayStation history without breaking the bank. This is exactly why I still love checking thrift stores and digging through their media sections. You never know when a hidden retro gaming treasure might be waiting!

Sometimes you leave empty-handed, and other times you find PS1 epicness for less than eight dollars.

Finds 2083: The Gamble of Buying a Laptop, Sad Conclusion

New Addition: The Gamble of Buying a Gateway P3C Laptop

Sometimes adding vintage technology to the collection comes with a little bit of risk—and unfortunately, this Gateway P3C laptop is one of those stories.

I was excited to add this classic Gateway laptop to the collection. There is just something special about these older machines, especially from the era when laptops were becoming powerful enough to truly replace desktop computers for many people. This Gateway has plenty of retro charm, from its chunky design to its classic keyboard and hardware.

Unfortunately, the excitement quickly turned into a bit of disappointment when I discovered that the laptop's screen needs to be replaced. As you can see, the display is not working correctly, which means this machine is not currently in the condition I hoped it would be.

Still, this isn't the end of the story!

One of the things I enjoy about collecting vintage technology is the challenge of bringing older hardware back to life. Now the mission begins: finding the correct replacement screen and the necessary parts to get this Gateway P3C fully functional again.

It may take some time and research, but I am determined to give this laptop another chance. The gamble did not completely pay off this time, but that is sometimes part of collecting old computers. You never know exactly what you're getting until you power them on!

For now, this Gateway P3C has earned its place in the collection, even if it is currently a work in progress. Hopefully, there will be a future update where I can show it fully repaired and running properly once again.

Things That You Find at Thrift Stores #1: A Box of Tampax?!

Thrift stores are amazing places. You never quite know what you're going to find sitting on a shelf, tucked away in a box, or hiding behind something completely ordinary. Sometimes you find a great vintage game, an old piece of electronics, or a collectible you never expected to see again. And then there are the things that make you stop and say, “Wait… why are they selling this here?”

Welcome to a new series on Retro Gaming Life: “Things That You Find at Thrift Stores.”

For this series, I'll be highlighting some of the strangest, funniest, most unexpected, and downright bizarre items I've spotted for sale at thrift stores. They don't necessarily have to be valuable or collectible—sometimes the weirdness of the item is the whole point.

And for the first entry, we're starting with something I definitely wasn't expecting to see on a thrift store shelf:

Tampax Tampons for $2.99

Yep. That's right.

While browsing through the thrift store, I came across a box of Tampax tampons sitting among the other merchandise. The box contains 20 regular absorbency tampons and was marked with a $2.99 price tag.

The package itself immediately caught my attention. It's not something you normally expect to encounter at a thrift store, especially alongside vintage electronics, household goods, books, and other secondhand merchandise.

The box even features the familiar Tampax branding along with the LeakGuard Skirt and other product information. From the appearance of the packaging, it looks like an older package design, making it somewhat interesting from a packaging-history perspective.

But the real question is:

Who donates tampons to a thrift store?

Thrift stores receive donations of all kinds, so I'm sure the people sorting donations have seen just about everything. Still, personal hygiene products are one of those categories that makes you do a double take when you see them sitting on a secondhand store shelf.

And there's something particularly funny about the idea of someone walking through a thrift store, spotting this box, and thinking:

“Yep. That's exactly what I came here for.”

Of course, there's also the practical side of it. With something like personal hygiene products, shoppers are understandably going to be concerned about packaging condition, age, and whether the item has been properly stored. Even if a package appears sealed, it's certainly not the kind of thrift-store find everyone is going to feel comfortable purchasing.

The $2.99 Question

The price tag on this particular box reads $2.99.

Whether that's a bargain compared with buying a new package at a supermarket or pharmacy is debatable, but that's almost beside the point. The amusing part is simply that this was an item someone decided belonged in a thrift store.

That's what makes thrift-store hunting so much fun.

You can walk in looking for one thing and walk out having discovered something you never even knew existed in the world of secondhand shopping.

Why This Series?

I've seen plenty of strange things while browsing thrift stores over the years, and I thought it would be fun to start documenting them.

Not everything needs to be a valuable collectible or a rare piece of gaming history. Sometimes the best finds are the ones that make you laugh, scratch your head, or immediately reach for your camera.

“Things That You Find at Thrift Stores” is going to be all about those discoveries.

Some will be vintage. Some will be unusual. Some might actually be valuable. And others—like this box of Tampax—will simply leave us wondering how they ended up there in the first place.

Finds 2082: A Yu-Gi-Oh! Haul Featuring One of My Favorite Cards!

There’s nothing quite like finding a great deal on some classic Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and this latest addition to the collection definitely delivered. This haul brought home a few new cards, several packs of Yu-Gi-Oh! Chaos Origins, and—most importantly—one card that has a special place in my personal favorites list.

The absolute highlight of this haul is the 1st Edition Ultimate Rare Bubbleman.

Elemental HERO Bubbleman has always been one of my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and owning an Ultimate Rare version makes this pickup even more special. The Ultimate Rare treatment gives the card that fantastic textured appearance that makes these older Yu-Gi-Oh! cards so much fun to collect.

And then there’s the fact that this is 1st Edition. For a collector, that little stamp can make an already desirable card feel even more special.

Bubbleman also brings back a lot of nostalgia from the classic Elemental HERO era of Yu-Gi-Oh!, making this much more than simply another card going into a binder. It's one of those cards that I can look at and immediately think, Yep, this is exactly why I love collecting Yu-Gi-Oh!

More Cards for the Collection

The Bubbleman wasn't the only card coming home with me. There are a couple of other cards pictured alongside it, adding even more variety to the collection.

Part of the fun of collecting Yu-Gi-Oh! is that you never quite know what you're going to stumble across when looking through someone's cards. Sometimes you're hunting for a specific card, and other times you find something you weren't expecting that ends up becoming the best part of the haul.

That's definitely what happened here with Bubbleman.

And Then There Were Packs!

Of course, no Yu-Gi-Oh! haul would be complete without some packs to open!

This pickup also included several packs of Yu-Gi-Oh! Chaos Origins. Seeing a stack of unopened packs is always dangerous for a collector because there's only one thing you really want to do when you see them:

Open them!

That's one of the things I love about trading card collecting. Even when you already have cards you're excited about, opening a sealed pack creates a completely different kind of excitement.

You start wondering what could be inside. Will there be a card you need? A great-looking Ultra or Secret Rare? Maybe something unexpected that immediately earns a place in the collection?

And, of course, there will probably be some duplicates along the way—but that's part of the fun!

The Best Kind of Collection Find

This haul really has a little bit of everything I enjoy about collecting.

There are cards with nostalgic value, unopened packs waiting to be ripped open, and a standout card that has genuine personal meaning to me.

The 1st Edition Ultimate Rare Elemental HERO Bubbleman is easily the star of the show. It's one of my favorite cards ever, and finding a copy like this makes the pickup feel that much more rewarding.

Now the big question is...

Do I open all those Chaos Origins packs, or keep a few sealed?

Knowing me, there's a pretty good chance they'll get opened eventually. 😄

Album Complete! Finishing My FIFA World Cup 2026 Panini Sticker Album

There’s something incredibly satisfying about putting the very last sticker into a sticker album. After opening countless packs, sorting duplicates, trading for missing stickers, and checking those empty spaces over and over again, the moment finally arrives when there are no more blanks left.

I can officially say that my Panini FIFA World Cup 2026 Official Sticker Collection is complete!

The final piece of the puzzle was a sticker from Türkiye, featuring Yunus Akgün. It might look like just another sticker, but when it’s the one you need to finish the entire album, it becomes something pretty special.

The Final Sticker

As you can see in the photos, the album was already packed with Turkish national team stickers, but there was still one spot waiting to be filled.

That final sticker was Yunus Akgün, and putting it into the album was the moment I had been waiting for. Once it was pressed into place, I could finally flip through the pages knowing that every section was complete.

There’s a unique feeling that comes with completing a sticker album. It’s not just about owning the stickers—it’s about the journey of getting there.

From Packs to a Finished Album

One of the biggest parts of the fun is opening the packs themselves. Every pack brings that little bit of anticipation: Which players are inside? Will I get a sticker I need? Or am I about to add another duplicate to the pile?

Duplicates can definitely become frustrating, but they’re also part of what makes collecting fun. Trading and searching for those last few missing stickers gives the hobby an extra challenge.

And then there’s that final stretch when the album starts looking more and more complete. The empty spaces become fewer, and every new sticker feels more important.

Until eventually, there’s just one left.

A Great Addition to the Collection

The FIFA World Cup is already one of the biggest events in sports, so having a physical souvenir like the Panini sticker album makes the tournament even more memorable.

The 2026 World Cup is especially exciting, with the tournament taking place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Having the official Panini album gives me a fun way to document the teams and players taking part.

Now that the album is finished, it’s going straight onto the shelf as another completed piece of my collection.

That Feeling of Completion

For collectors, finishing an album is about more than simply filling the final space. It represents all the packs opened, the duplicates collected, the searching, the trading, and the excitement along the way.

And now, when I open the album, I get to see the finished product instead of a collection that is almost complete.

The final sticker is in. The album is complete!

Another collection milestone achieved for Retro Gaming Life—although this time, we stepped away from retro gaming and into the world of World Cup sticker collecting.

Now comes the difficult part: resisting the temptation to start another album! 😄

🧛 Castlevania: Red Stained

For something darker, we have Castlevania: Red Stained.

This fascinating hack transforms the original Castlevania into something resembling a classic black-and-white horror movie, with carefully selected red elements providing dramatic highlights throughout the adventure.

But the changes aren't merely cosmetic. Red Stained also introduces new traps, additional enemies and paths, graphical corrections, redesigned areas, increased difficulty, and other gameplay changes. This isn't actually a hack of Super Mario Bros. Instead, it's a hack of Adventure Island that replaces the original game's hero with Mario and mixes elements from the Mushroom Kingdom with Adventure Island's gameplay.

The hack features completely changed levels, a new storyline, faster gameplay, redesigned Mario graphics, and a mixture of familiar Mario enemies with characters from the Adventure Island universe. It was released in 2023 by DjKranoll.

It's the kind of wonderfully unusual crossover that makes exploring the NES ROM-hacking scene so much fun!

Finds #2081: Double Dragon Advance and a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon

The latest additions to the Retro Gaming Life collection bring together two very different kinds of retro collectibles, but both are guaranteed to get the attention of collectors: a boxed copy of Double Dragon Advance for the Game Boy Advance and a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game.

One takes us back to the days of portable 2D beat-'em-ups, while the other brings some serious trading-card nostalgia to the collection. Let's take a closer look at both!

Double Dragon Advance

First up is Double Dragon Advance for the Game Boy Advance.

Originally released in North America in November 2003, Double Dragon Advance was developed by Million and published by Atlus. Rather than being a simple port of the 1987 arcade classic, the game is essentially a remake that combines elements from the original arcade game with ideas, moves, enemies, weapons, and stages from other entries in the Double Dragon series.

That makes this a particularly interesting game for a collection.

The original Double Dragon helped establish the side-scrolling beat-'em-up as one of the defining arcade genres of the late 1980s. Double Dragon Advance takes that formula and squeezes it onto Nintendo's Game Boy Advance while adding plenty of new material.

Players can take control of Billy or Jimmy Lee and battle their way through the game, with multiplayer support available through the Game Link Cable. The game also includes a Survival Mode, giving players another way to put their fighting skills to the test.

A Love Letter to the Original

One of the coolest things about Double Dragon Advance is how much attention was given to the history of the series.

The game includes four new stages that were inserted between stages from the original arcade game. It also introduces additional enemies and moves inspired by other Double Dragon games and Technōs beat-'em-ups.

Even the box artwork has a fun connection to classic martial-arts cinema. The pose of Billy and Jimmy on the cover was designed as an homage to Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in The Way of the Dragon.

So while it may look like another Game Boy Advance release at first glance, Double Dragon Advance is actually a pretty substantial celebration of the franchise.

And finding a boxed copy like this makes it an even nicer addition to the collection.

Red-Eyes Black Dragon — Ghost Rare!

The other addition might be even more eye-catching: a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon!

Red-Eyes Black Dragon is one of the most recognizable monsters in the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. Along with Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician, Red-Eyes has been one of the iconic monsters associated with the series since the early days of the trading card game.

This particular card is the Red-Eyes Black Dragon Ghost Rare from Ghosts From the Past: The 2nd Haunting, card GFP2-EN176. The set was released in 2022, and Red-Eyes was one of the classic monsters to receive the Ghost Rare treatment in the set.

And Ghost Rare is an especially cool rarity for collectors.

What Makes Ghost Rare Special?

Ghost Rare cards have a distinctive appearance that makes them stand out from virtually everything else in a Yu-Gi-Oh! collection.

The artwork has a silvery, almost ghost-like appearance and can look dramatically different depending on the angle and lighting. The card's name also has a pearlescent appearance. TCGplayer describes Ghost Rare as one of Yu-Gi-Oh!'s most prestigious collector rarities.

The rarity originally debuted in the 2007 Tactical Evolution set, and Ghost Rares quickly became some of the most desirable chase cards for collectors.

The Ghosts From the Past: The 2nd Haunting version of Red-Eyes is particularly fun because it takes such a classic monster and gives it an appearance that is completely different from the traditional Red-Eyes cards many fans remember from the early 2000s.

A Great Combination of Collectibles

I really like how these two additions represent different sides of retro gaming and collecting.

On one side, we have Double Dragon Advance, a physical Game Boy Advance game that connects directly to the arcade and 8-bit era of gaming. It takes a classic franchise and gives it a new life on a handheld system.

On the other side, we have Red-Eyes Black Dragon, representing the collectible-card side of the retro gaming and pop-culture world. For anyone who grew up with Yu-Gi-Oh!, seeing a Ghost Rare version of such an iconic monster is pretty special.

And there's something particularly satisfying about adding both a boxed Game Boy Advance game and a high-rarity Yu-Gi-Oh! card to the collection at the same time.

Another Fantastic Find!

Double Dragon Advance is already a great game to have in the collection, but finding a boxed copy makes this particular addition even better. Add in a Ghost Rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon, and this becomes one of those Finds that has a little bit of everything.

The Game Boy Advance represents an important part of Nintendo's handheld history, while Red-Eyes Black Dragon represents one of the most recognizable collectible card games of its generation.

Two different collectibles, two different forms of nostalgia, and two more great additions to Retro Gaming Life!

Finds #2080: A PS4, Ghostbusters, and South Park!

Another day means another batch of additions to the Retro Gaming Life collection! This time around, the collection gets a little more modern with a PlayStation 4 console, a couple of controllers, and two games that couldn't be more different from one another: Ghostbusters: The Video Game and South Park: The Fractured but Whole.

There’s something especially fun about these kinds of finds because they aren't just games—they're pieces of gaming hardware and pop-culture history that represent different generations.

Adding a PlayStation 4 to the Collection

The biggest addition in this haul is the PlayStation 4 console.

The PS4 represents a major chapter in Sony's history. Released in 2013, it became one of the most successful video game consoles ever made and helped define the eighth generation of gaming.

This particular console is the original-style PS4, with its distinctive angular design and two-tiered appearance. It's a great system to have in the collection, especially since the PS4 library contains an enormous number of games that are already becoming important parts of modern gaming history.

Of course, a console is much more fun when you have controllers to go with it, and this haul also includes a couple of controllers. Having extra controllers around is always useful, whether they're going to be used for multiplayer gaming or simply kept with the system as part of the collection.

And with that giant Pikachu hanging out in the background, the PS4 definitely has some company!

Ghostbusters: The Video Game

The first game in this haul is Ghostbusters: The Video Game for Xbox 360.

Originally released in 2009, this is a particularly interesting Ghostbusters game because it was created with significant involvement from members of the original movie cast. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson all provided their voices and likenesses for the game.

Rather than simply being another licensed game loosely based on the movies, Ghostbusters: The Video Game was designed to feel like a continuation of the original films. Players take on the role of a new recruit working alongside the Ghostbusters as they investigate supernatural activity around New York City.

The proton pack and ghost-catching equipment are the stars of the show, making the game feel much closer to actually being a Ghostbuster than many earlier licensed games.

The Xbox 360 physical copy is also a nice addition for anyone collecting games from that generation. The green Xbox 360 case immediately stands out among the collection.

South Park: The Fractured but Whole

The second game is South Park: The Fractured but Whole for PlayStation 4.

Released in 2017, this RPG follows up South Park: The Stick of Truth and takes the series' trademark humor into the world of superheroes.

Instead of medieval fantasy, the kids of South Park are now playing superheroes, with Cartman taking on the role of Coon. Naturally, things quickly get much more complicated than a simple game of make-believe.

The game uses turn-based RPG combat while maintaining the distinctive visual style and humor of the television series. One of the most entertaining aspects is how closely the game resembles an interactive episode of South Park.

This physical PS4 copy is a great addition to the collection, especially for fans of licensed games and TV-based video games.

And this particular edition even includes South Park: The Stick of Truth, making it an especially nice pickup for someone who wants both games on one disc.

Two Very Different Games

What I like about this particular haul is the contrast between the two games.

On one side, you have Ghostbusters, with proton packs, ghosts, supernatural investigations, and a story designed to capture the spirit of the original movies.

On the other, you have South Park, with superheroes, ridiculous situations, outrageous humor, and an RPG system underneath it all.

They're completely different experiences, but both are excellent examples of how established pop-culture franchises have been adapted into video games.

Another Great Addition to Retro Gaming Life

This was another fun addition to the collection. The PlayStation 4 gives the hardware side of the collection a boost, while the two games add some great licensed titles from the Xbox 360 and PS4 generations.

As the Retro Gaming Life collection continues to grow, it's always interesting to look back at these different generations of gaming hardware and see how quickly yesterday's modern consoles become part of gaming history.

And of course, having a giant Pikachu supervising the whole operation certainly doesn't hurt!

Finds 2079: Pikapal, Floppy Disks, and Games!

Finds #2079: Pikachu, Floppy Disks, and a Great Stack of Games!

There’s something I really enjoy about adding a little bit of everything to the collection. Sometimes a new collection haul is all about one particular console or genre, and other times you come across a group of items that couldn’t be more different from one another. That’s exactly what happened with this latest batch of finds!

This time around, we have some adorable Pokémon merchandise, a handful of classic Sony floppy disks, and a fantastic selection of PlayStation games spanning the PS4 and PS5 generations.

Pikachu Gets a Winter Makeover!

Let’s start with the star of the photo: this absolutely adorable Pikachu plush!

Pikachu is already one of the most recognizable characters in gaming, but this particular version comes ready for the cold weather. The blue winter hat, complete with Pikachu ears sticking through the sides and a fluffy pom-pom on top, gives this plush a wonderfully seasonal look.

The snowflake designs on the hat are a great little detail, too. It’s definitely the kind of collectible that adds some personality to the gaming room rather than simply sitting on a shelf alongside games.

And honestly, Pikachu looks pretty happy about being surrounded by all these new additions!

A Little Piece of Computer History

Behind the games are several boxes of Sony floppy disks.

For anyone who grew up with modern storage, it can be easy to forget just how important floppy disks once were. Before CDs, DVDs, USB drives, and cloud storage became commonplace, floppy disks were one of the standard ways to save and transfer computer files and software.

These Sony-branded disks are especially fun for a collection because they represent an entirely different era of technology. The familiar blue packaging and classic floppy disk format immediately bring back memories of older PCs and the days when storage space was measured in much smaller numbers than we're used to today.

They may not be video games themselves, but they fit perfectly with a collection that celebrates the history of gaming and computing.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance

Moving into the games, we have Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance.

Released in 2023, Quest for Balance lets players revisit the world of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series. Players can control characters including Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph while traveling through the four nations and using the various bending abilities. The game also features two-player cooperative play.

For an Avatar fan, having a physical copy in the collection is a nice addition, particularly alongside the many other anime-inspired and Japanese-style games in this haul.

Nioh 2

Next up is Nioh 2 for PS4.

This is one of those games that fits right at home in a collection of action RPGs. Developed by Team Ninja, Nioh 2 takes players into a supernatural version of Sengoku-era Japan, where samurai warriors and Yokai creatures are equally dangerous.

The game originally launched for PS4 on March 13, 2020, and eventually received a PS5 version as part of Nioh 2 Remastered.

If you enjoy challenging combat, character customization, Japanese history, and plenty of monsters trying to kill you, Nioh 2 has plenty to offer.

Dark Rose Valkyrie

Another interesting addition is Dark Rose Valkyrie for PS4.

Released in North America in 2017 by Idea Factory International, this is a Japanese-style RPG developed by Compile Heart. The game combines traditional RPG combat with a rather unusual mystery element: members of the Valkyrie Force can potentially be infected, meaning players have to investigate and interrogate their teammates to figure out who has been compromised.

That combination of RPG mechanics, anime-style presentation, and visual-novel-inspired investigation makes Dark Rose Valkyrie a particularly interesting physical addition.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

The PS5 collection also gets some love with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Released in 2024, Eiyuden Chronicle is a traditional-style JRPG created by members of the team behind the Suikoden series. The game features a huge cast of characters and a classic fantasy story involving war, political conflict, friendship, and the struggle for power.

The PlayStation version supports both PS4 and PS5, with the PS5 version releasing alongside the game on April 23, 2024.

For fans of old-school JRPGs, this is definitely one worth having in a physical collection.

And There’s Even More!

There are a couple of other interesting games included in this haul, including a Japanese anime-themed release and another PS5 title with a strong mecha/action aesthetic. The variety is one of the things I like most about this particular group of finds.

You have modern PS5 releases sitting alongside PS4 RPGs, an Avatar game, Japanese gaming material, computer-history memorabilia, and, of course, a giant Pikachu wearing a winter hat!

That’s quite a collection of different gaming eras represented in one photo.

Another Great Find for the Collection

This was definitely a fun batch of additions to the Retro Gaming Life collection. From the nostalgia of the Sony floppy disks to the modern PS5 releases, there’s a little something here for just about every kind of gamer.

And while the games are obviously the main attraction, I think the Pikachu plush might have stolen the show this time around. It’s hard to compete with a giant Pikachu wearing a winter hat!

As always, every new addition helps make the collection a little more interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the next Finds brings.
