Forgotten Finds #17 – Chaos Control Meets Rugrats on the NES!

Welcome back to Forgotten Finds, the series where I spotlight the unique, obscure, and nostalgic additions to my retro gaming collection. For post #17, I've got a pair of pickups that couldn't be more different, yet both capture a fascinating era of gaming history.

Chaos Control (Philips CD-i)

First up is Chaos Control for the Philips CD-i, one of the most unusual home consoles ever released. Developed by Infogrames, this full-motion video (FMV) rail shooter puts players in the role of a futuristic soldier battling robotic enemies across a dystopian city.

While the CD-i never achieved mainstream success, it became known for experimenting with multimedia gaming long before it became common. Chaos Control is a great example of the console's ambition, blending digitized visuals with arcade-style action. It's a title that many gamers have never experienced, making it a fun and interesting piece to own for any retro collection.

Rugrats: Revision for the NES

On the other side of today's finds is something truly unexpected—a Rugrats game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Since the Rugrats television series debuted years after the NES had already reached the end of its commercial lifespan, this isn't an official retail release. Instead, it's a fan-made ROM hack/reproduction cartridge that reimagines the classic console with characters from Nickelodeon's beloved cartoon.

It's always exciting to see what talented members of the retro gaming community create. ROM hacks like this breathe new life into classic hardware by combining familiar gameplay with completely different worlds and characters. Whether you're a Rugrats fan, an NES enthusiast, or simply enjoy collecting unique homebrew and reproduction releases, this is certainly an eye-catching addition.

Two Very Different Pieces of Gaming History

That's what makes collecting retro games so much fun. One day you find a forgotten commercial release from an experimental console, and the next you discover a creative fan-made project that never could have existed during the NES's original lifespan.

Both games represent different sides of gaming preservation—official releases that deserve to be remembered, and passionate community creations that keep classic systems alive decades later.

Finds 1886: CDI Games! Zelda and Hotel Mario

Here are some awesome gems for the CDI! I was able to pick up these two Zelda games which are just awful but fun overall. Alien Gate is a mediocre shoot 'em up game while Hotel Mario is probably the best one of the bunch. I already have Hotel Mario so will probably use this for a trade at some point. I have to make more videos on the Zelda games, they are just silly and crazy lol.

Finds 1884 Birthday Weekend Pick Ups! Adventure Island 3, Ninja Golf, Ninja Gaiden 3, Super Mario Bros 2, Dark Castle, and More!

Here are some awesome new additions. Totally loving the entire set of goodies. Got a bunch of awesome games I wanted forever! I also got some crappy ones such as Dark Castle for CDI! Adventure Island 3, Flintstones, Ninja Gaiden 3, Super Mario Bros 2, Ninja Golf, and Dark Fables. Just loving this set of awesome games! Check out below for more photos!

Finds 1816: Karate Kid and CDI Controller

Here is a nice lot of stuff! Karate Kid for the NES is in beautiful shape. I also got a really awesome CDI gamepad as the other one just doesn't make gameplay any easy. The seller took forever to send the controller which works great by the way so he ended up sending me that game along with it. I'll take it!

Finds 1810: Hotel Mario for CDI

Now that i have a working CDI, I can get some CDI games! This is the first one which I also had to get from Europe as they are more affordable there. Hotel Mario is a lot of fun and honestly one of the best games for the console. What should I get next?

Finds 1808: CDI AC Adapter!

I finally found an adapter for the CDI. How? I had to look at European auctions and sales. I won this one being sold as is so it was a big gamble. Now, I also had to get an adapter to change the power to the one here and after all of that I tested it and guess what? It works! I can now say I have a fully working CDI! Finally!

Finds 1674: Enter CDI and Capcom Coin Classics

It happened out of nowhere and it now has landed in my hands. This is the CDI and it's a console that is known for being so crappy, yet, I had to have it. The console came without the power adapter, so the quest begins for one of them! I also got a PC compilation of Capcom games which is really unique. I might have to get the ISO and upload it on the internet archive if people show enough interest for it.

Finds 1489: My first CDI Game! Harrison Ford Patriot Games! Plus Other PC Loot!

There is always a first and this one was for me! The first ever CDI game I’ve found in the wild. This one is called Harrison Ford Patriot Games. I don’t have the console for it, but who knows? Maybe in the future I will! I also picked up some PC games and for some reason Oregon Trail 4th Edition comes with three discs? What’s that all about??? Anyways, more loot!
