Finds 2079: Pikapal, Floppy Disks, and Games!

Finds #2079: Pikachu, Floppy Disks, and a Great Stack of Games!

There’s something I really enjoy about adding a little bit of everything to the collection. Sometimes a new collection haul is all about one particular console or genre, and other times you come across a group of items that couldn’t be more different from one another. That’s exactly what happened with this latest batch of finds!

This time around, we have some adorable Pokémon merchandise, a handful of classic Sony floppy disks, and a fantastic selection of PlayStation games spanning the PS4 and PS5 generations.

Pikachu Gets a Winter Makeover!

Let’s start with the star of the photo: this absolutely adorable Pikachu plush!

Pikachu is already one of the most recognizable characters in gaming, but this particular version comes ready for the cold weather. The blue winter hat, complete with Pikachu ears sticking through the sides and a fluffy pom-pom on top, gives this plush a wonderfully seasonal look.

The snowflake designs on the hat are a great little detail, too. It’s definitely the kind of collectible that adds some personality to the gaming room rather than simply sitting on a shelf alongside games.

And honestly, Pikachu looks pretty happy about being surrounded by all these new additions!

A Little Piece of Computer History

Behind the games are several boxes of Sony floppy disks.

For anyone who grew up with modern storage, it can be easy to forget just how important floppy disks once were. Before CDs, DVDs, USB drives, and cloud storage became commonplace, floppy disks were one of the standard ways to save and transfer computer files and software.

These Sony-branded disks are especially fun for a collection because they represent an entirely different era of technology. The familiar blue packaging and classic floppy disk format immediately bring back memories of older PCs and the days when storage space was measured in much smaller numbers than we're used to today.

They may not be video games themselves, but they fit perfectly with a collection that celebrates the history of gaming and computing.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance

Moving into the games, we have Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance.

Released in 2023, Quest for Balance lets players revisit the world of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series. Players can control characters including Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph while traveling through the four nations and using the various bending abilities. The game also features two-player cooperative play.

For an Avatar fan, having a physical copy in the collection is a nice addition, particularly alongside the many other anime-inspired and Japanese-style games in this haul.

Nioh 2

Next up is Nioh 2 for PS4.

This is one of those games that fits right at home in a collection of action RPGs. Developed by Team Ninja, Nioh 2 takes players into a supernatural version of Sengoku-era Japan, where samurai warriors and Yokai creatures are equally dangerous.

The game originally launched for PS4 on March 13, 2020, and eventually received a PS5 version as part of Nioh 2 Remastered.

If you enjoy challenging combat, character customization, Japanese history, and plenty of monsters trying to kill you, Nioh 2 has plenty to offer.

Dark Rose Valkyrie

Another interesting addition is Dark Rose Valkyrie for PS4.

Released in North America in 2017 by Idea Factory International, this is a Japanese-style RPG developed by Compile Heart. The game combines traditional RPG combat with a rather unusual mystery element: members of the Valkyrie Force can potentially be infected, meaning players have to investigate and interrogate their teammates to figure out who has been compromised.

That combination of RPG mechanics, anime-style presentation, and visual-novel-inspired investigation makes Dark Rose Valkyrie a particularly interesting physical addition.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

The PS5 collection also gets some love with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Released in 2024, Eiyuden Chronicle is a traditional-style JRPG created by members of the team behind the Suikoden series. The game features a huge cast of characters and a classic fantasy story involving war, political conflict, friendship, and the struggle for power.

The PlayStation version supports both PS4 and PS5, with the PS5 version releasing alongside the game on April 23, 2024.

For fans of old-school JRPGs, this is definitely one worth having in a physical collection.

And There’s Even More!

There are a couple of other interesting games included in this haul, including a Japanese anime-themed release and another PS5 title with a strong mecha/action aesthetic. The variety is one of the things I like most about this particular group of finds.

You have modern PS5 releases sitting alongside PS4 RPGs, an Avatar game, Japanese gaming material, computer-history memorabilia, and, of course, a giant Pikachu wearing a winter hat!

That’s quite a collection of different gaming eras represented in one photo.

Another Great Find for the Collection

This was definitely a fun batch of additions to the Retro Gaming Life collection. From the nostalgia of the Sony floppy disks to the modern PS5 releases, there’s a little something here for just about every kind of gamer.

And while the games are obviously the main attraction, I think the Pikachu plush might have stolen the show this time around. It’s hard to compete with a giant Pikachu wearing a winter hat!

As always, every new addition helps make the collection a little more interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the next Finds brings.

What do you think of this latest batch of additions? Which item would you want to add to your own collection? Let me know in the comments!

Stay tuned to Retro Gaming Life for more games, collectibles, vintage computer finds, and plenty more gaming goodness!

Finds 2074: More Thrifty Finds! Lotus VHS, Blue Prince, Dark Souls III, and Spanish for Windows 95

Retro Gaming Life – Finds: More Thrifty Gems Added to the Collection!

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of uncovering a mixed bag of retro and modern finds—and this latest haul is exactly that. From vintage PC software to modern cult classics, this pickup feels like a time capsule spanning decades of gaming and computing history.

📼 A Blast from the Productivity Past – Lotus 1-2-3 VHS Training

Kicking things off is a truly unique relic: a Lotus 1-2-3 training VHS tape. For those who don’t know, Lotus 1-2-3 was one of the most important spreadsheet programs of the 1980s, originally released in 1983. Before YouTube tutorials and online courses, learning software meant popping in a VHS and following along step-by-step.

This is the kind of piece that goes beyond gaming—it’s a snapshot of how people learned tech in the early PC era. A super cool addition for any vintage Windows or computing collection.

💿 Learning the 90s Way – Spanish for Windows 95

Next up is a Spanish learning CD-ROM for Windows 95, which screams mid-90s edutainment. Back when multimedia PCs were becoming mainstream, programs like this combined audio, visuals, and interactive lessons in ways that felt revolutionary at the time.

It’s always fun finding these educational titles—they’re often overlooked, but they capture the experimental spirit of early PC software.

⚔️ Modern Classic – Dark Souls III (Xbox One)

Switching gears to something more modern, Dark Souls III (2016) joins the collection. Developed by FromSoftware, this entry refined the brutal, methodical gameplay the series is known for.

Even years after release, it remains one of the defining action RPGs of its generation. A must-have for any collection that appreciates challenge and atmosphere.

👻 Psychological Horror Done Right – Blue Prince (PS5)

Adding some modern horror vibes is Blue Prince on PS5. This one stands out with its eerie atmosphere and narrative-driven design. It’s always exciting to add newer titles that experiment with storytelling and mood—especially in the horror genre.

🐉 RPG Adventure Awaits – Drakensang (Xbox)

Rounding out the pickups is Drakensang, a fantasy RPG rooted in classic tabletop-inspired mechanics. Known for its deep systems and rich world-building, it’s a great find for fans of traditional RPG experiences.

🎮 Final Thoughts

This haul perfectly captures what makes collecting so fun—variety. You’ve got:

  • Vintage PC training media 📼
  • 90s educational software 💿
  • Hardcore modern action RPG ⚔️
  • Atmospheric indie horror 👻
  • Classic-style fantasy RPG 🐉

Each item tells a different story about gaming and computing across generations. Whether it’s learning spreadsheets from a VHS or surviving brutal boss fights in Dark Souls III, it all belongs in the ever-growing world of Retro Gaming Life.

Stay tuned—there’s always more thrifty finds around the corner!

Finds 2070: Silent Hill 2, Back to the Future, and Wheel of Fortune 2nd Edition

New Finds: Time Travel, Terror, and a Classic Game Show

Every collector knows that some pickup days are simply better than others, and this latest haul brought together an interesting mix of modern horror, Hollywood nostalgia, and classic PC gaming. It's not often that a single shopping trip includes a PlayStation 5 horror masterpiece, a beloved film trilogy, and a vintage CD-ROM game, but that's exactly what made this batch so much fun.

Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy (Blu-ray)

One of the highlights of the haul is Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy on Blu-ray. Released as a collection in 2010 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original film, this set includes all three movies starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.

The trilogy remains one of the most beloved science fiction franchises ever made. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg, the films perfectly blend comedy, adventure, and time travel into an unforgettable experience. The Blu-ray release also includes a variety of bonus features, making it a great addition for both movie fans and collectors.

Whether you're revisiting Hill Valley or introducing the series to someone new, this collection is always worth owning.

Silent Hill 2 (PlayStation 5)

The newest game in this pickup is the PlayStation 5 remake of Silent Hill 2, released in October 2024. Developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami, the remake modernizes one of the greatest psychological horror games ever created.

While the original 2001 PlayStation 2 version became a legendary survival horror title, the remake updates the visuals, controls, and gameplay while staying faithful to the haunting story of James Sunderland's journey into the fog-covered town of Silent Hill.

For horror fans, this is considered one of the must-play releases of the current console generation.

Wheel of Fortune: 2nd Edition (PC CD-ROM)

Rounding out the haul is Wheel of Fortune: 2nd Edition for PC, a fun piece of late-1990s PC gaming history.

Published by Hasbro Interactive, this edition lets players compete in America's favorite television game show from the comfort of their home computer. Featuring digitized hosts, authentic puzzles, and multiplayer support, it captured much of the feel of the television series during the CD-ROM era.

Games like this were incredibly popular during the late 1990s as publishers adapted television game shows into family-friendly computer entertainment. Today, they're enjoyable nostalgia pieces and make excellent additions to any vintage software collection.

A Collection That Spans Decades

What makes this haul especially enjoyable is the variety it represents:

  • A timeless science fiction film trilogy.
  • A modern survival horror masterpiece.
  • A nostalgic PC game from the golden age of CD-ROM software.

From the late 1990s to today's cutting-edge gaming hardware, these additions showcase how entertainment has evolved while reminding us why collecting remains such a rewarding hobby. Whether it's preserving classic software, revisiting iconic films, or experiencing modern remakes of legendary games, every new addition helps tell the larger story of gaming and pop culture history.

This was definitely a successful day of collecting, and all three items have earned a welcome place on the shelf.

Finds 2061: Gamestop Deals! Epic Additions!

There’s a certain kind of haul that feels less like a random pickup and more like a perfectly curated snapshot of gaming history—and this one hits that balance almost effortlessly. From PlayStation 2 classics to modern remasters and Switch heavy-hitters, this batch bridges generations in the best way possible.

Let’s start with the PS2 side of things, because that’s where the nostalgia punches hardest. Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 is basically a time capsule, packed with arcade-era legends that defined entire genres. Collections like this aren’t just convenient—they’re preservation in physical form, keeping those quarter-munching experiences alive on a home console. Sitting next to it, Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon brings a very different vibe. It’s one of those more experimental entries in the Harvest Moon lineage, swapping rustic farming life for a sci-fi twist. It may not be the most talked-about title, but that’s exactly what makes it such an interesting addition.

Then there’s the modern crown jewel: Suikoden I & II HD Remaster (Day One Edition) on PS5. This is the kind of pickup that collectors and RPG fans circle immediately. The Suikoden series has long been one of Konami’s most beloved—and underserved—franchises, and seeing it return in a refreshed form feels like a long-overdue victory lap. If anything in this haul has “centerpiece” energy, it’s this.

On the Switch side, the lineup is stacked. Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection is pure adrenaline—fast, flashy, and loaded with crossover chaos that defined fighting games in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Right next to it, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince leans into that classic monster-collecting formula but with the unmistakable Dragon Quest charm and polish. And rounding things out is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, a remake that doesn’t just rely on nostalgia—it actively rebuilds a fan-favorite prequel with modern presentation while keeping its emotional core intact.

What makes this haul stand out isn’t just the individual titles—it’s the range. You’ve got arcade history, niche PS2 experimentation, legendary JRPG remasters, and modern reinterpretations of classic formulas all in one spread. It’s a reminder that a great collection doesn’t stick to one era—it connects them.

And honestly, this feels like one of those pickups where every single piece is going to get its moment. No filler, no shelf-warmers—just straight-up impactful additions.

Finds 2048: Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon Quest I & II, and Stories from Sol

🎮 RPG Legends & Hidden Gems: New Additions to the Shelf

There’s something special about bringing together titles from different eras, and this trio does exactly that. From tactical masterpieces to timeless JRPG roots and a fresh indie experience, these pickups add serious depth to your collection.

⚔️ Strategy Royalty Reborn

First up is Final Fantasy Tactics (PS5)—a name that carries weight in the world of RPGs. Originally a cult classic, this game is widely regarded as one of the greatest tactical RPGs ever made.

Set in the war-torn land of Ivalice, it blends political intrigue with deep, rewarding gameplay. The job system alone is enough to keep you experimenting for hours, and having this on modern hardware makes it even sweeter. This is the kind of title that doesn’t just sit on a shelf—it demands to be played.

🐉 The Origins of a Legacy

Next is Dragon Quest I & II (Nintendo Switch), a package that takes you all the way back to where one of gaming’s most beloved franchises began.

These games are pure history. Developed by Square Enix, the Dragon Quest series helped define the JRPG genre. Simple by today’s standards? Sure. But that simplicity is part of the charm. It’s a reminder of how powerful straightforward storytelling and exploration can be.

Owning this feels like holding a piece of gaming DNA.

🌌 Indie Storytelling with Heart

Rounding out the trio is Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog (PS5)—a lesser-known title that brings a different flavor to your collection.

With its anime-inspired presentation and narrative-driven focus, this one stands out visually right away. It leans into storytelling and atmosphere, offering something a bit more experimental compared to the heavy hitters beside it. These are the kinds of games that often become sleeper favorites.

🧡 A Well-Balanced Pickup

What makes this set of additions so satisfying is the balance:

  • A legendary tactical RPG with deep systems
  • The foundational entries of an iconic franchise
  • A unique indie title with personality

It’s not just about collecting—it’s about curating experiences. Each of these games offers something completely different, yet they all share that unmistakable RPG spirit.

🕹️ Final Thoughts

This is the kind of haul that reminds you why you collect in the first place. Whether you’re diving into strategic battles, revisiting the roots of JRPG history, or exploring a new narrative adventure, there’s no shortage of adventures waiting here.

Now the real question is… which one are you booting up first?

Fast-paced action, precise platforming, and stylish combat define the experience. For fans of classic ninja games, this is a love letter to the golden era of arcade action.

If you’re building a physical collection, this is the kind of pickup that defines it.

Finds 1978: Latest Additions to the Collection -The Caligula Effect on PS5

This weekend brought in a pair of visually stunning and psychologically intriguing JRPGs to the shelf: The Caligula Effect: Overdose and The Caligula Effect 2, both for the PlayStation 5. If you’re into cult RPGs with unique combat systems and deeply philosophical narratives, these games are absolute must-haves—and their growing rarity only boosts their collector’s appeal.

🎮 What Are These Games?

The Caligula Effect: Overdose

Originally released on PS Vita in 2016 and remade as Overdose for modern platforms, this version offers a more polished experience with updated visuals, additional story paths, new characters, and revamped gameplay. You play as a high school student trapped in a virtual utopia called Mobius, ruled by a sentient vocaloid-like idol named µ (Mu). Your mission is to escape the illusion with the help of a resistance group called the Go-Home Club.

Key Features:

  • Unique turn-based battle system that lets you preview attack outcomes

  • Deep social link mechanics and character backstories

  • Psychological and philosophical storytelling

  • Developed by former Persona staff

The Caligula Effect 2

The direct sequel builds on the themes of the first game while refining the combat and expanding the world. It introduces a new cast of characters and a new virtual idol, Regret, who has trapped people inside another simulation called Redo. Players once again take control of resistance members aiming to break free from a fake paradise.

Key Features:

  • Enhanced Imaginary Chain battle system

  • Improved visuals and voice acting

  • Complex character relationships

  • A darker, more mature narrative

🏆 Collector’s Insight: Rarity and Value

Both PS5 versions of The Caligula Effect titles are published by NIS America, known for their limited print runs. Here’s why these games are increasingly sought-after:

  • Limited Physical Release: While the games were released digitally, physical PS5 versions were only produced in small quantities. Caligula Effect 2 especially has seen low reprint numbers.

  • Publisher Reputation: NIS games, much like those from Atlus, often become collector’s items within a few years of release due to niche appeal and small-run physical copies.

  • Condition Matters: Your copy of Caligula Effect 2 shows some damage on the cover art due to sticker residue or box wear, which can affect collector value slightly—but both games are still great pickups.

  • Rising Prices: As of mid-2025, sealed or near-mint physical PS5 copies of either game can fetch $60–$90 each on the secondary market, with complete editions (especially first prints) being more valuable.

🕹️ Why These Games Matter

The Caligula Effect series blends introspective storytelling with experimental gameplay, making it a unique alternative for Persona fans or those interested in JRPGs that dare to be different. These aren't just video games—they're layered reflections on mental health, escapism, and identity.

Whether you’re a collector, a JRPG enthusiast, or just exploring more obscure titles for your PS5, these games are more than worthy of a spot on the shelf.

PlayStation 5 Owners Report Sudden Console Failures — What’s Going On?

The PlayStation 5 has been a huge success for Sony since its 2020 launch, but a wave of troubling reports is putting the spotlight back on the console’s reliability. Across social media, more and more PS5 owners are sharing stories of their systems suddenly dying without warning, raising concerns about a potential widespread hardware issue.

The complaints typically describe PS5 consoles that abruptly shut down and never turn back on. Some players note that these failures happened while the console was in Rest Mode, while others say their systems bricked during normal gameplay or even while sitting idle. The situation has left users frustrated — especially given how costly and hard-to-find the PS5 has been.

One viral example came from Kinda Funny host Greg Miller, who shared that his PlayStation 5 suddenly stopped working without explanation. His experience echoes similar stories found across Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), where players are trying to find common causes or solutions.

So far, Sony has not officially responded to the growing complaints or confirmed whether there's a larger issue at play. While many still enjoy their PS5 without problems, the silence from Sony isn’t sitting well with affected users who are left with expensive paperweights and out-of-warranty repair costs.

If your PS5 is still working, this may be a good time to back up your data and avoid leaving the console in Rest Mode, just to be safe. Until Sony addresses the issue, players are left in the dark — and hoping their own consoles don’t meet the same fate.

A tactical RPG that reminds me of the Fire Emblem and FFT days. Not widely known, but worth a look.

13. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III (PS5)
An epic JRPG with deep worldbuilding and turn-based combat. Great entry point if you’re diving into the Trails series.

14. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV (PS5)
Picked this up alongside part III—gotta keep that story going strong!

15. Reynatis (PS5)
Urban fantasy, flashy combat, and mysterious vibes. Haven’t heard much about it, but it caught my eye instantly.

🧠 Total Cost: $225 for 15 Games

All of these were brand new and stickered at $15 each. It’s wild to think you can still score niche and recent releases at this price point—especially when many of these games retail for $40–$60. This haul proves that physical media (and a sharp eye for deals) is still very much alive!

If you’re hunting for similar bargains, check your local GameStop’s clearance section or browse their lesser-known titles. You might just walk away with your next favorite game.

Finds 1961: Limited Run Arrivals! Raiden Nova, Momodora, Dark Forces Remastered, and Hatune Miku Logic Paint S

Blog Entry: Limited Run Mail Call – Pixel Perfection & Blaster Action!

Another day, another glorious stack of Limited Run Games in the mailbox—and this batch is packed with variety. From retro remasters to anime puzzle vibes and side-scrolling bliss, this delivery hit all the sweet spots. Let’s dig into what just landed!

🛡️ Momodora: Moonlit Farewell (PS5)

If you’ve been following the Momodora series, you know exactly what to expect: a beautiful, atmospheric Metroidvania with tight combat and hauntingly lovely pixel art. Moonlit Farewell is the finale to the long-running saga, and this physical edition from Limited Run is the icing on the cake.

Gothic ruins? Check. Magical girls with big weapons? Check. Emotional storytelling and silky-smooth 2D animation? Absolutely.

⚔️ Star Wars: Dark Forces Remastered (Switch)

The Force is strong with this one. Dark Forces Remastered brings the classic 1995 Doom-style Star Wars shooter back in a form worthy of the modern era—now portable! The Limited Run version is a sleek little love letter to one of the earliest Star Wars FPS games, with fresh graphics and modern controls.

Kyle Katarn is back, baby. And yes, he still shoots first.

🎮 Raiden III x Mikado Maniax: Raiden Nova Edition (PS5)

BULLETS. LASERS. SYNTHWAVE. That’s what Raiden Nova brings to your screen—and your ears. This enhanced edition of the classic vertical shmup cranks up the intensity with remixed music, new modes, and crisp visuals. A must-have for shoot-'em-up fans, and Limited Run’s PS5 packaging is as sleek as the ships you pilot.

Bonus points for triggering old-school arcade PTSD. 💥

🎀 Hatsune Miku: Logic Paint S (Switch)

Finally, something a little more kawaii. Miku fans, rejoice! Logic Paint S is here to bring soothing picross-style puzzles with a vocaloid twist. Unlock adorable Miku-themed artwork as you solve grids and vibe to the tunes. Think of it as brain training with a J-pop backdrop.

It’s the kind of game you pick up for “just one more puzzle” and end up playing for an hour. No regrets.

Final Thoughts

This haul showcases exactly why Limited Run Games continues to thrive—they cater to every corner of the gaming multiverse. Whether you're blasting TIE Fighters, solving logic puzzles with Miku, dodging bullet hell, or exploring cursed pixel worlds, they’ve got something special for you.

Rating: 5/5 Nerdgasms | 10/10 Physical Collector Joy | Endless Shelf Satisfaction

Finds 1943: Gamestop Buy 4 for 40 Deals!!

It's that time again! Buy 4 for 40 bucks at Gamestop for pre-owned games of 19.99 or less. I totally jumped on it and got some really cool stuff! The only exception is the TMNT Cowabunga collection which was at Walmart for 10.00 which was a really legit awesome deal. Anyways, I was able to get a bunch of games for Xbox one, PS4, and even a PS5 game even though I don't have the console yet. Be sure to check out the photos below for more detailed photos!
