DOS Thursday 013: God of Thunder

You ever wanted to play a Zelda-style game for DOS? Here is the perfect one for it. This is God of Thunder for DOS. This game has a top down view which resembles the original Zelda game for the NES. You do have a lot of puzzles to decipher so it contains a combination of both action and puzzler genres. 

You have a health and magic meter which you will have to keep an eye out a lot of times. You can recover by eating apples! Overall, this is a really fun game and you can download the full games here as it's freeware, or check out the DOS Games section for this download and many others.

DOS Thursday 012: Captain Comic

Ever wanted to play a classic platformer with beautiful PC Speaker sound? Look no further! This is Captain Comic for DOS. This game is quite beautiful especially for its time. The game has been released in various platforms but the version I played was the one for DOS. This game was even released on the NES and yes, I do have a copy of it.

DOS Thursday 011: The Incredible Machine

Here is a really interesting and popular game. The Incredible Machine is a game in which you have to decipher how to make things work. I guess this is considered a puzzler in which you place different gadgets in the right spot in order to make it all work!

Put everything in place and then test out if it works. The further you go into the game, the more complex it gets. There is so much awesomeness that you'll be sucked into the fun! DOS Thursday 010: Blake Stone

This I believe is a FPS that not many talk about but it's quite good. It's sci-fi oriented and it's a great game overall. Blake Stone brings some solid gameplay as well as things such as communicating with characters in the game. Believe it or not, at least to me, that was quite new. It's a really cool addition as you don't know if they'll turn on you and shoot at you. You fight monsters as well and other crazy things. You do the usual stuff as to find the different colored keys in order to advance in the game, and it really keeps you interested in it.

DOS Thursday 009: Hocus Pocus

This is another awesome game by Apogee. They tend to release gem after gem back in the day. Why aren't we getting sequels for these games???? Anyways, this is a really awesome side scroller in which you use your powers to traverse through the levels. 

The game is full of dangers and awesome graphics. The sound is also quite good. You can also go back to use the PC speaker sound if you desire. These games are amazing! Gotta love it. DOS Thursday 008: Jazz Jackrabbit

This post is a little late this week but here it is anyways. This week, we have a classic game for the PC. This is what a combination of action and speed would be like. A fast game like Sonic but with shooting and platforming action like the games from Apogee. If you never heard of this game, where have you been? DOS Thursday 007: Prince of Persia

This is one game that is really something else. You will be dying over and over and over. There is a lot of trial and error and you will be using all your skills to get through this game. Not only that, you have a timer in which you need to beat the game or else you will not be able to get the good ending. It's an amazing experience from start to finish and definitely started a genre of its own. Things that came later on like Tomb Raider and Blackthorne used similar gameplay and it shows.

DOS Thursday 006: Bio Menace

Here we have a really awesome sidescroller in which you play as this menacer that is on a mission to get rid of aliens as they have taken over the earth. He is the last hope apparently so better make it worthwhile. Apogee was behind this game and it definitely has the feel for it. This game is full of collectibles and weapon upgrades. You have to explore everywhere so it'll keep you busy for a bit. Definitely worth a try especially if you can play it on original hardware, it just has that feel that defines side scrollers for DOS during that era. Download it here!

Have you ever heard of Mega Man for DOS? Yes, it was released but don't go crazy just yet. This is Mega Man for DOS...

The game doesn't look like the games we played on the NES or SNES at all. This was made by another team so it really shows. The game at least looks like it could be Mega Man but it disappoints with all the gameplay mechanics.... It's really something else...if you want something painful to play. DOS Thursday 004: Ski Free

I think a lot of us know this game because it was probably one of the first games we played when we got a computer in the 90s! Ski Free is simple yet a lot of fun. The goal is to do tricks while going down a never ending hill. Also, did you know that you can run away from that monster that always seems to catch you? All you have to do is press the "F" button on your keyboard and you can run away from this monster. I didn't know that till recently by the way. Definitely give it a shot! What a great game.

DOS Thursday 003: Clyde's Adventure

Oh boy does this guy looks like Mario or what? So, this game is actually a lot of fun and has very little room for mistakes. You play as Clyde in his first adventure! The goal of this game is simple. Collect all the gems in the level but don't run out of energy. There are some items that will help you recover this but, you need to know the best way to beat each level. This game does take a lot of trial and error, but the reward of beating a very tough stage are priceless. I highly recommend this game if you are looking for a challenge. DOS Thursday 002: Wolfenstein 3D (PC)

This week, we have the classic Wolfenstein 3D for PC. The game was actually released before Doom, but Doom had a bigger impact on the genre. The game is pure fun and killing nazis has never felt so satisfying in the early 90s. It comes with a bunch of episodes that develops the story more and more. Be sure to get through it as you might fight this crazy bastard at one point!

That's Mecha-Hitler and he is insane! Just this by itself should be more than enough reason to play this amazing game. I highly recommend it. See where the roots of the games that we play today come from.
