Retro Gaming Life’s newest treasure-hunting correspondent has arrived.

Welcome to the premiere edition of Mouser Finds, a brand-new feature here at Retro Gaming Life where one very special retro enthusiast searches the world for forgotten gaming treasures, weird old tech, and anything else that makes our retro-loving hearts beat a little faster.

And who better to lead the hunt than Mouser the Retro Cat?

She may have four paws, whiskers, and a serious case of resting judgment face, but Mouser has an excellent eye for retro goodies. For her very first expedition, she came across a collection that proves you don't need a rare console or expensive cartridge to have a fantastic retro find.

📼 Find #1: A Box of Floppies

First up, Mouser discovered not one, but two boxes of 3M Imation High Density 3.5-inch floppy disks.

If you grew up with computers in the '90s and early 2000s, these are instantly recognizable. Before USB drives, cloud storage, and gigantic hard drives, a little plastic disk could feel like a technological miracle.

And for retro gamers, floppy disks have a special place in history.

They carried computer games, save files, utilities, mods, shareware, and all sorts of digital treasures. A 1.44 MB floppy might sound hilariously tiny today, but back then it was enough to hold something you actually needed—and the satisfying click of sliding one into a floppy drive is pure nostalgia.

Mouser's verdict?

"Still more reliable than trusting the cat with your save files."

She's got a point.

🎮 Find #2: The S-Video/AV System Selector

Next up is perhaps the most immediately exciting find for a retro gamer: an S-Video/AV System Selector.

The packaging advertises compatibility with systems including the Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, N64, Dreamcast, DVD/VCR players, and CD players.

Anyone who has ever owned a pile of retro consoles knows exactly why something like this was useful.

Instead of constantly crawling behind the television to swap cables every time you wanted to change systems, a selector box let you keep multiple devices connected at once.

And there's something wonderfully authentic about the packaging. The purple-and-black design, the CRT television illustration, the list of compatible systems—it's a perfect little snapshot of the era when the entertainment center could contain a PlayStation 2, GameCube, Dreamcast, VCR, DVD player, and probably three remotes you could never identify.

Today, modern HDMI switchers have made this kind of hardware much less glamorous.

But for a retro setup?

This is exactly the kind of oddball accessory that belongs in the collection.

Mouser approves.

Mostly because it gives her another box to sit next to.

And then there's the robot.

Because every good treasure hunt needs a robot.

The colorful transforming robot in Mouser's haul looks like it came straight out of the golden age of transforming toys. With its bright red, blue, yellow, and silver parts, it certainly knows how to make an entrance.

Is it gaming-related?

Not necessarily.

Does that matter?

Absolutely not.

One of the things we love about collecting retro is that the hobby isn't really limited to consoles and cartridges. Old toys, electronics, computer hardware, advertisements, accessories, and forgotten pieces of pop culture all help tell the story of the era.

And frankly, if Mouser finds a robot, Mouser shows us the robot.

That's the rule.

Finds 2077: COWABUNGA LOT!

Cowabunga! Expanding the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collection

Every collector has those days when they stumble across a group of items that simply can't be left behind. That's exactly what happened with my latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles haul. Instead of bringing home a single collectible, I added an entire collection of TMNT figures and vehicles to the Retro Gaming Life collection.

The centerpiece of this pickup is the Turtle Tank, one of the most recognizable vehicles in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles history. Originally introduced in the classic animated series and toy line, the Turtle Tank perfectly captures the over-the-top style that made the franchise so memorable. From its exaggerated design to its ridiculous assortment of weapons, it represents everything that made TMNT toys so much fun during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Joining the Turtle Tank are several figures inspired by both classic and more obscure TMNT characters. Punk Donatello brings a completely different look to one of the franchise's most recognizable heroes, showing just how creative the Ninja Turtles universe can become.

One of my favorite additions is the Ace Duck and Mutagen Man set. Ace Duck has always been one of those characters that longtime TMNT fans remember fondly. While he may not have received the same level of attention as the four turtles, his unique design helped him stand out among the enormous cast of supporting characters.

The Creepy Eddie and Shibano-Sama set adds even more variety to the collection. One of the greatest strengths of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has always been its willingness to introduce unusual characters, strange mutations, and completely unexpected storylines. These figures are excellent examples of that creativity.

What makes this pickup especially exciting is how it bridges several generations of TMNT fandom. The franchise has successfully reinvented itself multiple times through comics, cartoons, movies, video games, and action figures. Whether you grew up with the original animated series, discovered the turtles through later adaptations, or became a fan through the arcade games, there's something instantly recognizable about these characters.

As a retro gaming collector, I often find that gaming and toy collecting go hand in hand. The Ninja Turtles are a perfect example. Finds 2069: Mime Jr Figurine!

Mime Jr. Joins the Collection – One of My All-Time Favorite Pokémon!

Every collector has those special additions that instantly become highlights of their display, and this adorable Mime Jr. figure is definitely one of them! As soon as I saw it, I knew it had to join my Pokémon collection.

Mime Jr. has always been one of my favorite Pokémon. Its playful personality, expressive animations, and charming design make it stand out from so many others. While it may not be the strongest battler, it's packed with personality, and that's exactly why it's earned a permanent place in my collection.

This figure does a fantastic job capturing everything that makes Mime Jr. so lovable. From its bright blue hat-like head to its cheerful pose and signature pink nose, it's a simple but incredibly cute collectible. It may be small, but it definitely catches your eye on the shelf—especially next to some of my other Nintendo and Pokémon collectibles.

One of my favorite things about collecting is finding pieces that bring back memories of playing the games, watching the anime, and discovering new Pokémon over the years. Every figure tells a story, and Mime Jr. is a reminder that not every favorite has to be a legendary or powerhouse Pokémon. Sometimes it's the quirky, fun characters that leave the biggest impression.
