Retro Game of the Week 119: Alien Syndrome (NES)

Alien Syndrome is a game that brings the arcade experience home. Believe it or not, The Tengen version of the game is quite good. Even better than the Master System version. This games gives a balanced experience of gameplay, graphics, and music. The game was originally released by Sega so that's saying a lot! I guess just leave it to Tengen to make it into something wonderful. Lets take a look at this game!
In the music and sound department, this game doesn't offer much. Lets face it, it can't sound or look the same as the arcade game but it does have its own charm. Sound effects are also a very good addition.
The game does look better than other counterparts (Sega Master System) and it has the usual 8-bit charm. I guess Tengen had more experience with the NES. The game uses a good array of colors to make things work. In some ways, it's almost arcade like. That's quite impressive.
This game is quite fun. Lots of alien shooting in this one. It mimics the arcade game quite well. A totally enjoyable experience. It brings arcade value into the mix. In other words, when a console game makes you feel like you are playing the arcade experience, then that's really good! I enjoyed it and many others will do as well. It's quite shocking how this game isn't worth more.
This is a very fun game in which you destroy aliens. That was one of the many fads back in the late 80s and early 90s. This was considered awesome and innovative. Overall, it's just that and then some. As the game mimics the arcade game quite well, it's no wonder it's the better version of it. I highly recommend this game as it's quite cheap to buy which is a shocker. I'll just leave it at that.

Retro Game of the Week 118: Bloody Wolf (TG-16)

A very awesome game for the Turbo-grafx is none other than Bloody Wolf. I guess you can refer this one as the Contra of the Turbo-grafx. The game plays well and has a very interesting story, save the president. Obviously not the current president we have right now, you can let that fuck die. Uh oh! lets get back to the game. Bloody Wolf can be played with two players. The game also gives you infinite continues which is great because you are going to die a lot! Lets take a peek at this gem.

The game does have very decent music. It's not an amazing set of music and sound effects, but it does the trick. You do feel like you are in a battle field and not a game show. The sound is also pretty good. It's precise and doesn't try to do too much. It's just right!
Graphically the game is decent as well. I like the animation of the enemies dying as well as the blood! Yes, this game has blood and you didn't even needed some code to unlock it. It really isn't much blood but still. I like it. The game doesn't disappoint in that department. Overall, it's a very detailed game and you will not get lost in it. There are houses to go into and get items and what not. Although, I have to say, some houses have an open door but you can't get in there. What's the deal with that? One time, I went running to open door and got shot because it was just part of the background! I wanted to use it as refuge! UGH!
So you can play with a friend and you have infinite continues. The thing is, you will be having problems with this game if you don't get the extra life containers. The problem is, once you lose one life, yes one life, you will lose the extra health therefore increasing the difficulty of the game. In other words, you will have to practice and get good at it. There is no way around it!

Since it's based on an arcade game, it's a port of the original. The port is well done if you ask me. The game is a tone down version but it does justice to the game. Overall, I would have to say that it's just as satisfying as playing it on the arcade and best of all, no need for quarters. Let me just say this, just when you think the game is over, something else will unfold! You have been warned!
This is a neat little gem for a forgotten 16-bit console. I highly recommend this game though. You want something different and fun? This is it. Have a friend ? Play this game with him/her. The great replay value it holds is more than enough reasons to come back to it. I gotta say, it's a very interesting top-down game. Underrated too!

Finds 1052: Revenge of the Ninja, Alien Syndrome, Rolling Thunder 2, and War of the Dead

A nice set of additions to the collection. I honestly think I'll never get tired of adding stuff to my ever growing collection. This time around, we have Revenge of the Ninja for the Sega CD. It plays as a movie in which you must decide the actions in seconds! Better be fast! Then, we have Alien Syndrome which is a pretty good port of the arcade classic. Rolling Thunder 2 is pretty good and playable! I highly recommend that. Then, War of the Dead is a very neat Sci-fi style game for the PC-engine. You can play it with limited knowledge of the Japanese language so I recommend it as well. Lets see what else is coming!

Finds 1051: Pandemonium, Luigi Ghost House Story, and The Krion Conquest

Some new additions to the collection. They are pretty neat titles overall. The Pandemonium is actually a very fun 2.5D platformer. It was cheap and everyone should enjoy the silliness of it. The other two are Famicom carts with fun games inside!

Retro Game of the Week 115: Prince of Persia (Sega CD)

This is a very interesting port that added a little bit of charm to the game. Prince of Persia has one kick ass cover and crazy good gameplay. This is the first game in the series and probably one of the most memorable ones to me. The game starts you off in a prison cell in which you escape from. The cool thing about the Sega CD version is that it actually comes with a voice and video intro of the game. It pretty much tells you everything that happens and why. Even though the voices are cheesy, it's quite cool! Lets take a look at the game!
So the music of the game is actually pretty good. You know why? Because it's CD quality. The sound also doesn't disappoint. I also love the sound effects of when you either drink a potion or defeat an enemy. It just brings back that early 90s classic tune style that's just satisfying to the ear. Well done!
The game looks great and graphics are quite good and detailed for its time. I have to say, the SNES version does look a bit better than this version. Either way, they both have a charm and this one does hold quite well.
Probably the best part of the game is the gameplay. There was nothing like it and this was a quite satisfying rendition of gameplay. Every step you took was crucial and had to be with care. Any careless move and the prince was done for. I have to say, watching him die at times was pretty funny especially when he screamed. Isn't that just awful? Sorry!
The game is very fun to pick up and play. They only give you one hour to finish the game so you are bound to only play for an hour and then the game is over. It only motivates you to come back for more! This is a very challenging game so believe me, you'll be back for more.
The Prince made an amazing debut in multiple platforms. It's quite enjoyable to still be able to play and have a good time with this game even after so many years. The series was also revived later on during the early 2000s but we haven't heard much from the Prince since then. This one is a prized game indeed.

Finds 1050: Congo's Caper and Super V.G.

One game Super VG is a street fighter 2 clone and plays great while the other is the sequel to Joe & Mac, well more of spin off but lots of fun to play. Two solid titles added to the collection.

Finds 1049: Sega Sign! It Lights UP!

This is a sign I bought from China! It lights up and looks amazing! I gotta say, I'm quite impressed and we shall see how long this will last! I only paid 18 bucks for it so I don't expect much lol.

Finds 1048: Curse and Guilty Gear X

Two more entries ! Curse is a shoot 'em up for the Mega Drive but of course, it can be played on the Genesis with the right tools. It's very fun but tough! Guilty Gear X is the better version of the game for the Dreamcast. I have yet to try this one out though because my Dreamcast is put away somewhere. Need more room. Also, both of these are recommendations from Game Sack !

Finds 1047: Rise of the Dragon and Final Fight CD

This is Rise of the Dragon and Final Fight CD for the the Sega CD. I've been wanting that Final Fight for a long time. It's crazy how long I waited to get this game. This is probably the best version of the game out there for consoles that is, classic consoles. I know the game was re-released in a compilation for PS2 and Xbox. Anyways, Rise of the Dragon is a pretty fun adventure game. Both very good game for the console errrr add-on.

Ads from the past 382: Kid Icarus

This week we have an ad for the game Kid Icarus. These ads were out as flyers for when the new games were coming out. Trying to get the word out! They are quite rare nowadays especially the original ones. Problem is, making copies of them is quite easy with technology we have today so I don't see them worth collecting. They're beautiful to look at though.

Xbox One to Emulate Dreamcast

Some news going all over the web especially of emulation fanatics is that a new emulator called WinDCe10 will be coming out for the Xbox One. Of course, this is an unofficial emulator which I'm sure Microsoft won't appreciate and will try to get rid of asap. Either way, the project is still in early development although they have given a list of the games it will be able to play. We will have to keep an eye on the progress of this emulator. Believe it or not, there are already emulators for the Xbox One that play other consoles. It's not surprising though, as every time a new console or handheld is released, emulators follow. A trend like this will never end! I'll definitely keep you posted!

What could possibly go wrong? Bubsy is Back!!

So in a very bizarre turn of events, Bubsy out of all the forgotten mascots from the early 90s is back! A new game is coming out for the current gen consoles (Not sure about the Switch) And it definitely gives back some nostalgia! I gotta say, I did enjoyed the first couple of games even though it was hated by many. It was something that mimicked Sonic in a bad way, but it had a lot of faults in the gameplay. Maybe that has been fixed after all these years? Only time will tell! This game is coming! Here, a preview of the game.

Finds 1046: PC Engine Loot! Nectaris!

Here are three more additions to the PC Engine collection. They aren't huge titles, but they're pretty awesome. I just realized, they have a volume number on the top right of each game. Hmmmm... I gotta look into this more in depth.

Finds 1045: Prince of Persia for Sega CD and Marko for Genesis!

This is Prince of Persia for the Sega CD. The game is actually quite similar to both the Genesis and SNES versions except with high quality CD SOUND! I'll take it! Marko is an average game about a kid that really loves his soccer ball. I remember seeing this game on magazines back in the day and thought it was a very interesting concept.

Finds 1044: Disk System Loot! Additions for the 8-bit classic!

More disks are here. A couple I don't have as well. The ones released by DOG software are just wonderful as they came in big boxes. Think of them as the big box games of collectibles we have nowadays. I also picked up another awesome Famicom game in a box. It's just a beautiful console to collect for.

Game-bit of the day 783: Waku Waku 7 (Saturn)

Been itching to get this fighting game by Sunsoft. It's a very obscure but pricey title. Guess who swiped it off the web? ME!

Finds 1043: Famicom Disk System Games + Namco X Capcom !

here are some new arrivals! The Disk System games are always welcomed even if they are doubles or triples of games I already have! The Namco X Capcom is a new little addition which reminds me of Project X-Zone for the 3DS.

Game-bit of the day 782: Darius Burst CS Limited Edition

This is a very sought after game especially in the collectible type. The game was sold out in less than a minute but somehow I was lucky enough to get a copy. Anyways, this is a shoot 'em up with lots of replay value. A good game indeed that finally got a physical release.
