Lighting Up the Game Room: New Mario and Pokémon Additions to the Collection
Every retro gaming setup needs more than just consoles and games. The right decorations can completely transform a gaming space, turning a simple room into a personal museum filled with memories from some of gaming's greatest franchises. That's why I'm excited about my latest additions to the Retro Gaming Life collection: a Super Mario Question Block LED light and an incredible Gengar wall light from Pokémon.
The Super Mario Question Block is one of the most recognizable symbols in video game history. Since Super Mario Bros. debuted on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, players have spent decades jumping into these mysterious blocks in search of coins, power-ups, and hidden surprises. Seeing that iconic yellow block instantly transports me back to countless hours spent exploring the Mushroom Kingdom.
What makes this piece especially fun is that it captures the simple but unforgettable design that helped define Nintendo's most famous franchise. Even people who don't consider themselves gamers immediately recognize the Question Block. That's the kind of lasting cultural impact only a handful of video game symbols have achieved.
The second addition might be my favorite. Gengar has been one of Pokémon's most popular creatures since the original games launched in 1996. With its sinister grin, glowing red eyes, and mischievous personality, Gengar has always stood out among the franchise's massive roster of Pokémon.
This wall-mounted LED light perfectly captures the character's playful yet slightly spooky appearance. It's the kind of display piece that immediately grabs your attention and becomes the focal point of any game room.
One of the things I enjoy most about collecting gaming memorabilia is finding items that go beyond cartridges and discs. Decorative pieces like these add personality to a collection while celebrating the games and characters that shaped our childhoods.
The combination of Mario and Pokémon also represents two of Nintendo's most influential franchises. One helped define the platforming genre, while the other created one of the most successful entertainment brands in the world. Bringing both of them together on a single display shelf feels like a celebration of gaming history itself.
These lights will make excellent additions to my gaming room, and I can't wait to get them set up and glowing alongside the rest of the collection.
