So it's Halloween and it's time for me to let you in on a little secret by telling you six spooky games you should not run away from. Why six? Because it's my lucky number! I know people usually pick thirteen and so on so just want to be a little different. As you can tell, the main photo for this post says it all. I have personally played all these games so I can guarantee a freaky time with them all. Let's check it out, BOO!
Kid Dracula (Famicom)
This game has always given me a funny yet scary spookiness factor as it has some very interesting things in it. Not only do you get egged by witches but you fight members of the Ku Klux Klan. There is also some dude with a Nazi symbol somewhere. The gameplay is a true given though as you can shoot and jump anywhere. Not only that, you gain new powers as you go through the game. The game is quite pricey but totally worth it. There are usually copies all over eBay for 20-30 dollars and now you can get an awesome repro from Retrozone. I would go with the repro for sure as it's also translated in English for a bigger spook!
Splatter House (Turbo Grafx)
Here is a very mutilating experience. In Splatterhouse, you are this crazy devil man beating the hell out of everything in your path. If you think about it, this game was something else for its time. You wouldn't see much violence other than Mortal Kombat to rival it. The game is everything you want to when you wanna take it out on the world. I only have one more thing to say and that is please look at the pic below.
Be sure you don't fall under any of those two categories or you won't be able to play this game.
Resident Evil (PS1)
The original Resident Evil brought chills to my spines every single time I would turn it on in the evenings. There was nothing like playing it with the lights off and with darkness all around you. I gotta tell ya, I was scared! Real scared! I do suggest you pick up the Director's Cut but overall, either one should do the trick. I just said the DC because of the extras it has etc.. There is more than one memorable scene in this game and the awful voice acting blends it all together for a fantastic experience. I'm ready to go back to the mansion and play through it once again...If we talk about price, this would be the cheapest of the list. You can find it for 10-15 bucks on your local eBay.
Clock Tower (SFC)
The only way I was able to play this game was via emulator years ago and only once the translated patch was released. This game is very scary! The one part that I will never forget is that freaky guy following you around with a big set of scissors! The way he walks and follows you freaked me the fuck out! You have to play this game for sure! There are so many mysteries around every corner! Unfold them all! There is only a couple of ways to get this game in physical form and that is through eBay as usual. You can also get a repro for it through Game Reproductions for 60 dollars.
Castlevania: Dracula X (SNES)
Here is one to play through and get through it in one piece. Not only is this game expensive as fuck but it's challenging especially in the final battle. You might think you got this game beat but believe me, once you reach Dracula, it's far from over. You'll be screaming, slicing your guts out, and hanging yourself before you think this is an easy game. Just remember, it takes a lot of practice and you should be alright. Furthermore, get ready to spend quite a bit of cash as this game is usually going for 80-100 dollars loose. If you find it in the wild for mad cheap, you'll be a dumb ghoul not to pick it up, har har har!
Sweet Home (Famicom)
Here is a sweet of all homes! Sweet Home for the Famicom is nothing but genius. The game is so uniquely gorgeous in every way. You'll play through it and discover the mysteries of the mansion (Sounds familiar?) As you fight diabolical creatures from hell. There is more than enough to keep you going! This is a game you must have if you are into the horror/RPG genre. It's an 8-bit beauty that gave birth to another masterpiece that I mentioned before, Resident Evil. If you must know, the Famicom versions goes for around 30-40 dollars on eBay. I highly suggest you pick up a repro NES cart as it's a lot cheaper and in English. You can't lose!!
So that's it. I hope you enjoyed these picks. I know I did! Once more, I hope you all have an amazing Halloween and be sure not to eat too much candy! Cya in November!!! ^_^
