So here we are with another entry. This one is based on the classic Dragon Warrior series. What's better than one Dragon Warrior game? Two Dragon Warrior games! Check this out!
The game that started a legend, Dragon Warrior also known as Dragon Quest nowadays and back when it first started in Japan was the game to play. It would always outsell the Final Fantasy series as the Japanese gamers would find the gameplay more interesting than the Final Fantasy games. Nevertheless, the series took a while to turn heads here in the States which lead into late releases and missing releases of the entire series. The SNES versions were quite good but never saw the light of day which is why we are thankful for the Nintendo DS releases we got recently. Furthermore, this is the game that started the re-releasing phenomenon of the series. Started from the Gameboy Color to the Nintendo DS, there is no doubt that people can't get enough of this classic series.
The music may have been dated even for the Gameboy Color time-line but it was incredibly memorable. You'll listen to the classical soundtrack of such an awesome game and to be honest it doesn't matter which game you pick, they will both make your ears tremble.
The graphics are more like for the NES. There is no point is bashing them for this as there was only so much you could do on the GBC. The best quality they could come up with is NES style graphics! We do have to be thankful for that as we ended up playing lots of classics due to the graphical power it was able to deliver. Of course, as for these games the graphics are well done and everything is in place. Can't say no to such retro beauty.
The classical RPG style gameplay will keep you coming for more. You build up your team and level up, learn new spells, gain power weapons, and watch as your party mature. At least that's the case for Dragon Warrior 2. As for Dragon Warrior, you are all alone so you better train twice as hard.
These games are always good to come back to. If you are talking about replay, you'll be happy to know that this one is a gem at that. You'll have to come back and battle the same monsters over and over and still find it enjoyable. Of course, veterans of RPGs should find no problem at coming back to these gems. I'm not sure about your average gamer though...
To conclude, you get two classics in one cartridge. You can't get any better than that! Enix were savvy enough to do such a thing and I will give them lots of credit for it! This two in one masterpiece is totally worth a pick up. Be sure to check it out, you'll thank me!

As a die hard fan I loved this remake. It has a good values you said being two games in one, but at the same time it is the 2 simplest ones in the entire series. For people who have not played any DW/DQ games yet, these 2 versions are actually the easier to play as they seriously nerfed the stats in the player's favor. The originals on NES are mug mug harder and less forgiving.
Try finding the GBC Dragon Warrior III if you end up loving this port.
Already did, check out this week's pick :p
