New Additions to the Collection: TMNT April O’Neil & Cobra Vehicle
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of adding fresh pieces to a growing toy collection. Recently, two fantastic finds have made their way onto the shelf: an action figure from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III and a vintage G.I. Joe Cobra vehicle. Each one carries its own nostalgic weight and toy history, making them standout additions.
April O’Neil – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993)
Straight from the TMNT III movie line released by Playmates in 1993, this figure captures April O’Neil in her samurai-inspired outfit from the time-traveling adventure. The sculpt reflects her on-screen look from the film, complete with her flowing outfit and accessories. In this case, she’s holding a golden staff along with her additional gear, which helps recreate her role in the movie’s feudal Japan storyline.
While April isn’t always the most common figure found in the TMNT toy lines, her Turtles in Time gear makes this version especially unique. Fans of the franchise know how tough it can be to find her with all accessories intact, so this piece is a big win for any serious Ninja Turtles collector.
Cobra Pogo Ballistic Battle Ball – G.I. Joe (1987)
On the other side of the desk is a throwback to G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. The Cobra Pogo Ballistic Battle Ball, originally released in 1987, is one of Cobra’s quirky yet memorable vehicles. Piloted by Cobra soldiers, this odd little machine was designed to “hop” across the battlefield with its spring-like legs and rotating cockpit.
The design is unmistakably 80s—equal parts sci-fi and toy engineering experimentation. It comes equipped with blasters, hoses, and a bubble canopy to protect its pilot. Seeing one in such good condition with a figure inside makes it a centerpiece item for anyone collecting G.I. Joe vehicles.
Why These Pieces Matter
Both of these toys highlight what made the late ‘80s and early ‘90s such an amazing time for action figures. On one hand, you have Playmates keeping the TMNT movie line alive with characters beyond the four Turtles. On the other, Hasbro was pushing the limits with wild vehicle designs that kids could throw right into backyard battles.
Bringing April O’Neil and the Cobra Pogo into the collection adds a strong dose of nostalgia, while also filling in some harder-to-find gaps from each toy line. These are the kinds of finds that make collecting so rewarding.
