Latest Pickups – Traxxpad, Lair, El Shaddai, and Front Mission Evolved
Welcome back to Retro Gaming Life! Another hunting trip means another batch of eclectic titles added to the collection. This time around, we've got a really interesting mix spanning the PSP, PS3, and Xbox 360, featuring everything from forgotten music creation tools to cult-classic action adventures and mecha combat.
Let's dive into what's new on the shelves!
Traxxpad: Portable Studio (PSP)
Starting off with a unique piece of software for Sony's powerhouse handheld, Traxxpad: Portable Studio by Eidos. This isn't your traditional game; it's a portable music creation and beat-making studio released back in the PSP era. Finding complete handheld utility carts and software like this always adds a fun variety to a collection beyond standard platformers and RPGs.
Lair (PlayStation 3)
Next up is a true controversial piece of early PS3 history: Lair developed by Factor 5. Released at a time when Sony was pushing the Sixaxis motion controls hard, this dragon-riding epic caught a lot of flak at launch. However, looking back at it now through a historical lens, it remains a fascinating visual showcase and a unique artifact of a transitional hardware generation.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (Xbox 360)
One of the crown jewels of this particular pickup is El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. Published by UTV Ignition Games, this game is famous for its jaw-dropping, surreal art style and unique mythological premise based on the apocryphal Book of Enoch. It’s a stylish cult classic that has only grown more desirable for collectors over the years, and finding a physical Xbox 360 copy is always a great win.
Front Mission Evolved (Xbox 360)
Rounding out the group is Front Mission Evolved from Square Enix. While long-time fans of the tactical RPG series had mixed feelings about the shift into a third-person shooter format, jumping into Wanzers and engaging in fast-paced mecha combat still makes for a fun afternoon of action.
