There is nothing like giving life to old hardware. This is one of the things I enjoy the most. I went to a thrift store around two weeks ago and stumble upon this computer. I did asked the seller how much, he said 30 bucks and I was iffy about it. I offered 20 but he refused so I left. After a couple of days of thinking about it, I came back, and checked to see if it was still there. Shockingly it still was there! I picked it up and paid the 30 bucks and was on my way. One thing I did prior to getting this computer was to check any information online. Sad to say, there was barely anything online about it. It would make the search of drivers a lot tougher but with the help of my nerdy friends, I was able to get it.
This is the tower! This is an HP Pavillion 8400E with a Pentium 2 450mhz, 12 gb of HD, 128mb of ram, and usually comes with Windows 98 but this one had XP. I'm not a big fan of older computers from this era having XP, so the downgrade was crucial. The computer also came with a sound blaster sound card which was a big plus. I decided to erase everything and installed a fresh copy of Windows 98se. I reinstalled all the drivers and everything worked flawlessly. I did added one more little card for it. Check below to see what it was!
Yes, this is Windows 98se screen! Looks beautiful!
All the specs of this computer.
One final touch was to install this voodoo 3 16mb AGP card! I found this around five months ago on a garage sale for a couple of bucks and decided to test it out on this computer. It works flawlessly.
