Have you ever heard of SGST (Some Good Shit Translations)? They were
one of the early romhacking groups formed in the late nineties by
various people such as EsperKnight, TheFreak, Tom, Higgs and Darien.
Back in the day they announced several translations including Megami
Tensei for the Famicom and have been working on it for over a decade. So
this is not really a translation announcement for those who can recall
The Scene history.
We are writing here today to tell you that all major hurdles regarding hacking were cleared some time ago and that a release was planned for the Christmas/New Years holiday season, but we missed that release window. So now we have a virtually complete translation, but you can’t play it. We’ve decided to wait until the game’s next anniversary as we feel a game of this magnitude deserves a special release to coincide with its historical significance.
Hacking and translation features include an expanded ROM for a massive and beautiful English script, expanded Demon names of 10 characters (as opposed to 8), expanded item names of 14 characters (this lets us fit Hinokagutsuchi) and 16+ characters for key items.
