Famicom Guide Updates!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Famicom Guide will be receiving some major updates this week. The reason for the lack of updates has been due to my computer's sound card which I was finally able to fix without having to buy a new one. Aren't I efficient? Anyways, there will be lots of recordings going on this week so be sure to visit!

Yu-gi-oh! Amazing Cards 010: Missile Fish

Hello once more duelist and get ready for another kick ass card from my wonderful master deck. This time around we have the monster card called "Missile Fish". This monster is ready to take aim at your opponent's life points so don't hesitate to bring him out. You will need to sacrifice one monster but that's a small price to pay to take advantage of this monster. The description reads as follow : "The Fish has full thorns on the body. It can emit missile from the underside of the abdomen." I hope that helps you out in learning more about this kick ass monster! Until next week!

Ads From The Past 055: Ultimate Basketball (NES)

This game is actually not bad and was everything we had other than Double Dribble in that time. Thank goodness that Tecmo NBA Basketball came along to give us hours of fun!~ I still consider this one a decent title.

Retro Gaming News 007: Surprise Announcement! SFC Silva Saga-II Picked up by D-D! (Updated)

In some translation news we have the following information from the site Dynamic Designs:

That tricky Bongo`...!

He had resumed work on Silva Saga-II in secret - to see if he could finish solving certain technical issues. Then, he embarked on an exhaustive search to retrieve a dumped script that Akujin had begun translating years ago that was approximately one-third finished. So, guess what... With a bit of effort, this well-advanced new project could suddenly yield a V0.33 working patch - in English!

The rub is that we either need Akujin to return or to find a new dedicated translator to render the remaining untranslated blocks in the text and miscellaneous folders. I (Wildbill) have two people in mind I plan to contact, but if anyone out there has an idea - please post it on our dedicated Silva Saga-II project-in-work board in the forum.

Very sparse information concerning this game appears to be available on the net. The most knowledgeable English speaker who does understand the story, I'm guessing, is Ritchie. Yes, I'm talking about that amazing FAQ/Walkthrough writer, Ritchie, who is also a key member of our Burning Heroes team. Ritchie just happened to write the FAQ for Silva Saga-II, and this is what he had to say:

"[In this] sequel to the Famicom version RPG [in which] the mercenary system was popular, [you play] the soldier of light who travels on a journey to defeat the Devil [and fulfill the legend] of Minelavaton Field where light and darkness fight [to decide the fate of the world]. [Silva Saga-II features] a peculiar system [in which a gamer combines and organizes] up to 12 mercenaries or deity statues."

So, classic RPG fans, we all have something new and unexpected to anticipate now!

Oh, and I can even start hounding Bongo` to fix the names in the SS-II battle menu - just like he did in Burning Heroes unexpectedly, a few weeks ago!

Ads From The Past 052: SNK Games Make Great Stocking Stuffers

This is a very nice Christmas ad for the holiday season. It mainly shows off some of the good titles from SNK before they dumped Nintendo and decided to go up against them. There is one title on this ad that I think should be in anyone's list, care to guess? The answer is Crystalis!

Ads From The Past 051: Pictionary (NES)

Making crappy games interesting was a huge part of video gaming back in the late 80s and 90s and this is just one of the bunch. I'm not saying the game is horrible but it's not something I would play on a daily basis or in a session of retro gaming goodness. The ad itself portrays it as a game that anyone can pick up and play although if you were smart enough to not buy into the ad, you'll be good. For the rest of you, run for your lives!

Dragon Ball Final Bout Opening

Hello! Meowwww!! ^-^ I may not be as active as before but I can still deliver. I have this intro for those anime fans out there. This is Dragon Ball Final Bout for the original Playstation. The game was released in the United States twice believe it or not. Once, back in 1997 when the Dragon Ball Z anime wasn't that popular which resulted in the game becoming very rare to find. The 1997 release had the cover similar to the Japanese release so they can get mistaken from time to time. The game was again released in 2004 by Atari although I don't know much about it. I believe they took out this amazing intro which is why I decided to show it off here for those of you who missed it. That's all ^-^

Retro Game of the Week 065: Sonic 3 (Genesis)

Games with speed have always caught my attention so Sonic had to eventually come along into the mix for the pick of the week. Sonic 3 defined how a Sonic game should be and should always be. The game not only delivers a beautiful gameplay experience but a wonderful sound score among other things. The replay value is great and the best part of all, the game saves! Yeah, you have three spots to save your progress and come back for more. Sonic 3 is the Sonic game you should play, screw that crappy Sonic 4 game.

The game starts you off like similar Sonic games. You usually start up in some type of jungle area which developers did on purpose mainly because there could be a new Sonic player out there just getting into the series and wanted to introduce them to the game mechanics with lots of freedom. Sonic veterans will also enjoy the first couple of stages as they can get familiarized to the changes of the game from the previous counterpart. Moving on, the game is what you expect of a Sonic game back in the early 90s. It's fast, fun, and has a wonderful sound track. There are many reasons why this game is on the top of the list. Sonic comes with some new tricks up his sleeve but you'll have to figure that out for yourself as this article is meant not to spoil your fun by exploring this game. I'm just here to give my opinion anyways and it's only up to you to take my opinion into account.

Furthermore, this is a game that you won't feel trapped and stressed out. The game delivers difficulty in a savvy way. You can just feel the flow and try your best. If not then don't worry because you can save your game and continue on after you broken a few windows or walls from rage of losing in the game.

To conclude, this game is everything that a Sonic game should have been and if it wasn't for the downfall of transferring Sonic to 3D so bad then we wouldn't be seeing the horribly painful games nowadays. I say if it didn't worked in 3D then go back to the 2D games but with Sonic 4 being just a so-so game, I think it's too late to go back now.....until next week!

Ads From The Past 050: Phelios & Burning Force (Genesis)

Continuing with the Sega trend, we have yet another ad from it. The ad is very simple and has a nice look. The Pac-Man dude helps with giving the ad some attention. As good as the cover art may look, I'm sure these games are just your average Sega titles but I could be wrong.

I never heard of this but here is a nice ad for it. Granada for the Genesis is a game about grenades! Just kidding but yeah it has a war like influence in there. I wouldn't mind trying it out.

Finds 276: More Famicom Arrivals

Here are more arrivals from Japan. As many of you have already heard, I have decided to collect Famicom games that are complete only which is one of the reasons the video game findings are a lot less than usual. I'm trying to focus on those pieces for my collection so more attention and time goes to them. I can say that I'm building up a very nice collection now so I can't stop. I was able to pick these games up for less than twenty dollar and although they took a while to arrive, I was very happy to see them get here. The games are not the best to play but very good to collect. As you can see the one in the center is a gameboy color title which I'm going to get into starting now as the boxes are just a joy to see. I really prefer the boxes and art from Japanese imports rather than their US releases, I know some of you will agree on that. Nonetheless, we got new games! Until next time retroids!

Ads From The Past 048: Golgo 13 NES

Yet another interesting ad for the NES. They showed the characters of the game in it with great detail. Of course, you can see the screen shots of the game in the bottom left of the ad. I gotta say that I really liked this ad...not sure why...

Ads From The Past 047: Genesis Does it All

Hello and welcome once more to another video game ad. This one was released in the mid of the 16-bit console wars as Sega commercialized themselves as superior to Nintendo and others. I have to admit that each console had their ups and downs so I can believe half the crap these ads are saying.

Animes Turned into Games #1 - Akira

Akira is a animated film that was released in Japan on July 16, 1988. This film became popular quite fast and was later on dubbed and released in North America later on but didn't do anywheres near as well as it did in Japan.
Just like most films that are released a Akira video game was released on the Famicom system in the winter of 1988 . The Akira game for the Famicom in my opinion sucked extremely bad and didn't help the animated film in any way.

So if your bored and want something to watch I recommend this movie. If your bored and want a game to play, play something else.
