I'm very disappointed with you Gamestop

Apparently this is nothing new to Gamestop but I was shocked to see that they actually sell re-sealed games! How can you re-seal a used game just to sell it as new? Are you really that greedy or do you think the average customer is stupid? Probably both, but really this is something that you are not going to get away with especially since I'm a collector and all. Now, I know some of you must be like “But you are going to open it anyways” Well, I'm really not going to open it anyways and even if I was, it doesn't matter because this is just another form of fraud if you ask me. This is like buying a used condom with the wrapper re-sealed. It has been used and played with but lets just give it to you as brand new and charge you even more money because we consider it brand new! NOT! Gamestop has disappointed me once again but I'm not surprised.

Why you ask? Because this has happened before in a even worse fashion. It's Christmas 2003 and I decided to buy a couple of new gameboy advance games so I picked out Final Fantasy 1 & 2 and Golden Sun. Both seemed to be in the correct shape and all, I wasn't a collector by then if you were wondering. So then, Christmas comes and it's time to open the gifts. I gave my brother his games and he opened them. He went and got his GBA SP and opened the first one, no problem. When he went to open the Final Fantasy box, he realized that were was no game in the box!! Can you believe this? No game in the box! I'm not saying Gamestop did this on purpose, I'm saying some moron worker must have done this trying to get away with it. We went back the next day furious and they didn't even asked questions, apparently it had happened a lot of times in the same day.

Hmm don't sell it as new if it's not new to begin with bob....

Again, I'm not saying that Gamestop HQ called up the manager and said to re-seal empty boxes but come on, that just gives a bad name to the store altogether and now this? That's just way too low by your part Gamestop. I really miss Play n Trade more than ever now! Well, I'm going tomorrow to fix things up so I'll have an update about my re-sealed game, hopefully it's a good one. One last thing, buyers beware! Collectors, examine!

Finds 243: Vakyrie Profile & Rhapsody

I decided to hit the thrift store but surprisingly I came out empty handed even though there were some decent items but not to my appeal. I decided to stop by Gamestop on the way back and see if there was something of interest and well, yeah there was. They had Rhapsody (NDS) and Valkyrie Profile (NDS) brand new for 9.99 each. I couldn't resist the chance to add some new RPGs to my collection so I picked them up. There are also three more games that might be coming although I didn't brought my rewards coupon so if everything goes well I should have them tonight.

Sweet sealed goodness. I have too many RPGs to play as of yet in my to play list so I'll have these sealed for the time being. Who knows, they might be worth something someday right? Until next time!

Retro Game of the Week 057: Donkey Kong 3 (NES)

This is probably not the best of the three but it still deserves a mention. You can think of this game as the Super Mario Bros 2 of the trio as it's the odd one of the group. Of course, Donkey Kong jr had Mario as the villain which was already odd enough but this one had a totally different hero. I remember when I was young I used to think this little guy was Mario when he was younger battling against the big ape. I also though that before Mario turned into a plumber, he used to kill bugs. Of course now we know the truth but enough about that, lets get to the game.

The game is as simple as any of the arcade games back in the 80s. Your main goal is not to finish the game but to accumulate the highest score. Your skills will be crucial to score big in this one. The usual mechanics of the game work as other arcade classics, which means the further levels you go, the harder the levels get. You will eventually have no room for error as you try to dodge and kill the hundreds of bugs coming after you. That's not all, you also have to worry about the big ape climbing down and once he does, you are toast! But wait! It's not over just yet, you also have to prevent the bugs from taking away your plants! If you want to score big, you gotta defend your pot.

You will have fun with this game for sure. There is not much too explore but there is sure a lot of replay value as you can always challenge friends or yourself to beat the score and become the king of Donkey Kong 3. Be sure to practice practice practice after all, it's a NES game and back in those days you really needed to have mad skills to be a respectable player. Games nowadays, well they are more entertaining than challenging. That's all for this week, take it easy!

Finds 242: Mail Day and Lots of Games!

So I got a total of four packages from purchases I made online(cough eBay cough). There were some great deals out there so I just had to jump in the chance to improve my collection and make some of my invested money back.

The package was pretty big so it took a while to open but as you can see the seller did a great job packaging the games. I think for 20 dollars shipped this was a pretty good deal.

So here is the first set of games. The SNES games the Mask and Cliffhanger are in great shape. The Tron game is in really beat up shape but I already have that game so it's no biggie. Then there are some CIB Genesis games and a 32x Star Wars title! Oh joy!
Here is the second wave of games from that box. I mainly bought this lot because of one title alone, Crystalis. It was about time I got me a boxed copy of this wonderful masterpiece. The best part is that the manual is in full color and as big as the box! What a well made game! Well there are also other items there like some Atari titles and some booklets that came as freebies.

There were also these NES boxes. I am confused at some of these boxes though. They are sealed but yet there are no games inside, I'm guessing it's just a re-seal job for a rental store. It's a really nice job either way, although the only one not sealed is Donkey Kong 3. So that was the whole big package and how much did I paid for all that's above you ask? 20 shipped! But there are a couple of smaller packages that I got today as well. See below!


And here are the other packages I got today. Tetris CIB and Castlevania CIB came in one package for 20 shipped. The two Japanese gameboy games(One of them being FC Genjin YAY!) Were four dollars shipped and the ESPN MLS game was three dollars shipped. Overall, good additions to my collection!


Overall, a great day to receive some good stuff. I gotta keep this up to be able to have a collection I can be proud of, not like I don't already feel proud of it but there are always ways to improve it. I hope you liked today's finds as there will be more to come! Until next time!

Finds 241: Sega Pico Among Others

I was able to pick this baby up today yay! It only cost me 7.95 but to be honest I didn't know much about it until I did my research online a couple of minutes ago. I tried it out and it's a very interesting machine. You plug the AV cables to your TV and the AC adapter to your outlet duh! And start the game off! It's like a virtual book of some sort and it's filled with mini games and puzzle games. It's a very interesting toy released by Sega.
The Sega Pico! Sega did released lots of add-ons, consoles, and now this! Too much in such a short time you know, that might have been their downfall.
I also picked up these controllers for 1.95 each. These might help keep my hobby alive and kicking!
I also picked up this PC game for 1.95. This was the one I left last time because I ran out of money to buy it. It went home with me this time around :)


So that's all this time around, I have to admit it has been a pretty slow week for finds but it should get better as the month progresses. Until next time!

Pirate Game of the Week 001: Super Bros 8 (FC)

And yet another new section to this growing blog is added. The main point of this is obviously to give the word out on some of the more interesting pirates or hacks out there. There are just so many out there that it's impossible to keep their numbers. Who knows how many pirates are out there, we'll never know for sure.

So this week we have Super Bros 8 for the Famicom/NES consoles. The game is actually a hack of Don Doko Don 2. The game has been hacked to look similar to a Mario game and how so? Well all you had to do was Hack the title screen to show Mario in it instead of that little old guy and of course the character's sprite. Overall, it's a great game! Playing as Mario in an unknown world is typical for a Mario game (Just check Mario 2 for the NES) And something tells me this would have made a better Mario game if it would have been one to begin with. We gotta thank the pirates for releasing this one for sure. It is after all my favorite pirate cart out there.


The game is quite simple. You are Mario and you have a hammer so what must you do? Beat every enemy up by hammering them to their deaths. You are also able to pick up power ups to give your hammer powers as well as to help you jump higher. The levels are very entertaining and the music score is exquisite. You can't go wrong with this game!

If you are able to pick this game up, lucky you as it's not that common. For those of you that want to play it emulator style, well here you go. I'll hook you up with the rom. Until next week!

Find of the Month November

November's best find was challenged by many but none could match its value. The GBA lot found at the beginning of the month took this past month's honors as the best find of November. How can you turn down a big lot of GBA boxed RPGs? You can't! And for sixty dollars it was quite worth it. There weren't only some GBA boxed RPGs in the lot but also some GBC boxed RPGs like Zelda Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. All the boxes are in top shape and in mint condition as well so you can't go wrong with them. Fire Emblem, Zelda, Golden Sun, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy were in the lot with a couple of others. I was able to pick this lot with a smile on my face as I am a big fan of RPGs and would love to go and play through every single one of them although that's going to be tough since I have already a big list of RPGs to go through before I decided to start new ones. I do have some good news though, I was able to beat Pokemon Ruby today so that's a good start, now I have to finish Persona 4 and start on Sakura Wars.


Here it is once more to the top find of November and with one month left in the year 2010, there is not much time left to find something that will top this. Cya around!
