Finds 399: Something I Totally Forgot! NES Power Pad and Wireless NES Controller!

So I totally forgot about these finds! They were from about a whole month or so ago and were given to me by my brother. He found them in a trip to the thrift store so bought them for me. Isn't he nice? Anyways, here you have a NES Power Pad and an akklaim wireless controller. The controller is actually boxed but I couldn't find the box (It's somewhere) so I will have to take pics of that later! I haven't tried the controllers and probably won't anyways since my Twin FC took control. That's all for now, can't beat free and family!!

Ads From The Past 205: F-15 Strike Eagle (NES)

So to finish the month we have yet another ad. This one is from F-15 Strike Eagle for the NES and I guess it would appeal more to people obsessed with planes. Overall, I can't say this isn't a bad ad or a good ad I mean it comes with its own high flying pilot right out of the box!

So a quick trip to the flea market ended in some decent finds. There was very little to go around but I'm happy with the results. The NES games were two for five while the Genesis and PS1 game were two bucks each. Hunting has been very dry lately but I know it will pick up!

Kung Fu Heroes (NES)
TMNT 3 (NES)
Shadow of the Ninja (NES)
Zelda (NES)
Battle of Olympus (NES)
Battletoads (NES)
Galaxy Force 2 (Genesis)

Retro Gaming News 099: Angel Marlowe

" This is a very odd sort of game. The idea of it is pretty simple. You’re an angel (presumably Marlowe), and there some flowers you have to grow. How do you grow them? Well, there’s this sun kinda thing that moves around the edge of the screen. Pushing the A button makes it shoot a ray from wherever it is on the edge of the screen to wherever you’re standing. Sound easy? HAW. There’s these mean, nasty farmer guys trying to thwart you by tilling the ground, because for whatever reason you just can’t walk on tilled earth. Sad, but true. And it doesn’t help that there is already limited space to move around in, and that touching the evil farmers kills you, and that you have to charge the sun thing up with the B button before you can fire flower-growing, farmer-destroying rays. And why is Angel Marlowe growing flowers? Beats the crap out of me.

Oh, and beware, almost every emulator has trouble running this game. WinGBC seems run it with the least amount of evil flickering, so that’s why I recommended it."

SNK Playmore to re-enter the handheld market!

These news took me by surprise especially with such upcoming competition of the PS-Vita and the current 3DS. I'm willing to pick one up at the right price though.

"SNK Playmore is set to re-enter the hand held console market, debuting the Neo-Geo PSP look alike which comes with some classic games already pre-loaded.

The original Neo-Geo Pocket, released in 1999, was perhaps the most successful of Neo Geo hardware and this new edition is set to be a re-imagining of that famous edition. While there aren't many competitors to go up against, the ones that are there - every edition of the Nintendo DS, PSP, PlayStation Vita - are extremely well established. In fact, with the next generation of home console hardware coming out in the next 24 months, this would seem like a strange time to enter the game.

Metro has a translation of the original Famicom Plaza posting, detailing some of the internal hardware. It looks like this Neo Geo remake will come with a 4.3 inch LCD display and 2GB of onboard memory. Some of that will be taken up with pre-installed classic games though, including: World Heroes, The Ultimate 11: SNK Football Championship, Top Player's Golf, Sengoku, Nam-1975, Mutation Nation, Last Resort, King Of Monsters, Frenzy, Cyber-Lip, Fatal Fury Special, The Art Of Fighting, Super Sidekicks, League Bowling, Metal Slug, Magical Lord, Baseball Stars Professional, Samurai Showdown, The King Of Fighters '94, and Fatal Fury.

For the control scheme the Neo Geo has an analogue stick, menu and start buttons and the standard four face buttons with the designations ABCD, going anti clockwise from the bottom.

TMNT Handheld is Possessed!

One of the weirdest things to happen with a video game handheld or console ever just happened the other day. So I was talking to my roomate and then all of the sudden I hear the TMNT theme song playing and I'm like "Oh that's a nice ringtone" and she was like "WTF you talking about?" So after looking around where it was coming from, we saw the handheld playing it. The thing is that the batteries were totally dead so how can it be playing?? Worst of all, I tried to shut it off but there was nothing on the screen except the TMNT theme was the only thing that was playing. After taking out the batteries, the theme song was still going on!!! It finally stopped after the song was over...whew! So yeah, it was a very odd thing to happen! I though it would be interesting to share ^_^'

Retro Gaming News 098: Silva Saga-II English Patch Complete!

"It looks like Dynamic Designs has gotten another release ready just in time for the New Year! Er… Lunar New Year that is!

That wonderful little gem, Silva Saga-II, has now been totally translated and is ready for the public. A great number of very talented folks came together to get this classic game done and out the door. Countless numbers of hours were spent working hard to deliver a game with a beautifully polished script and look.

If you’ve been missing out on that great SNES RPG nostalgia, then check out the patch and head on over to the D-D!"

Retro Gaming News 097: Maverick Revenge II

"This is the sequel to my first hack Maverick Revenge for Mega Man IV. This time it’s based on Mega Man V.

I am kinda done with “hacking”, since I still haven’t learned any ASM. Therefore this hack will never be more finished then it is. You can play to the last Wily stage, however you won’t get longer. Also, after the last Proto Man stage it may seem like the game has frozen, but it will go on if you just wait.

Because of that I never learned ASM I couldn’t do what I really wanted - to add Maverick instead of robot masters, therefore the confusing name. I understand it may seem weird, but that’s the explanation.

What you actually CAN do in this hack, to not confuse anyone:

  • Finish all 8 robot masters
  • Finish all Proto Man stages
  • Finish to the last Wily stage
  • Collect ALL MEGAMANV letters, yes they are there but well hidden :)

The soundtrack is also changed.

I tried to push the NES graphic-wise as much as possible, and there I think I did succeed in some ways."
