Game-bit of the day 281: Q-Bert (NES)

Is this little guy cursing every time he talks? I sure hope so because he should be cursing for the fact that he's living in a world where the platforms change color and you keep getting chased by freaks, being a freak yourself though...

Game-bit of the day 280: Phantom 2040 (Genesis)

This is a very decent game although a whole trilogy never took off. It's still worth a mention. He's the Phantom anyways!

Game-bit of the day 279: One Piece Pirate's Carnival (PS2)

Here is a very bad One Piece game. This game made no justice to such an awesome anime series. Really, One Piece is such an awesome series! I can't believe we didn't get decent games till recently. That's good though!

Game-bit of the day 278: Super Tennis (SNES)

This is a pretty awesome game and it was all we had back when the SNES was just released. It really was super!

Ads from the past 286: Super Brawl Wrestling (SNES)

I thought this was an ad for Mexican wrestling but I was totally wrong. Back in the 90s, wrestling was king. I don't even know how it's still alive nowadays nor did I ever understood why people would watch fake fights. Then again, I play video games in fantasy worlds so who am I to say anything? ^_^'

This is one of my favorite RPGs ever! It's just an awesome game, you can't get enough of it. It's also very challenging!

Bootleg Game of the Week 075: Pocket Monster (FC)

 This game has been in multiple platforms including the SNES and Genesis so why not take a look at the weaker one of the bunch. The Famicom version is actually not bad and lots of fun to play. The game gets very repetitive and boring after a while though. There is just something boring about Pikachu going through the same forest over and over. The power up shock ability is a good plus but doesn't make it that much more enjoyable. Care to see how it ranks up?
The music of this game is annoying!!! I'm not even kidding. Just hit mute! There aren't many more sounds to listen to after that. There is no "pikachu" voice or anything like that. Move along...
The game does have some decent graphics. Yeah, this game is actually pretty awesome to look at. Some of your enemies are even familiar pokemon but then there are some others that just look like they were born deformed. Nevertheless, it's a good looking game and Pikachu is yellow!
The gameplay is difficult and Pikachu tends to fall off a lot. It's only normal for a bootleg to have these faults which is totally understandable. The game does offer good enough content to make it enjoyable for a bit. The problems with the gameplay doesn't stop it from being playable, it's as simple as that.
The game is fun to play through but not something that should be played on a regular basis unless you have a Pikachu fetish. Either way, it's a good game to show off your Poke-friends.
This game would make an awesome addition to your collection mainly because it's Pokemon and it's a bootleg and it's actually not the worst one around. Till next week!

Game-bit of the day 275: Pokemon Diamond (NDS)

This is a pretty fun game for the Nintendo DS! Pokemon Diamond really improved the series and introduced us to a different world of Pokemon. Not only that, the graphics were enhanced! Gotta continue to catch 'em all!

Game-bit of the day 274: Tetris 2 (SNES)

This was a good attempt at Tetris but it failed! I was totally disappointed with this entry of the series. Why change something that was so amazing? You stupid Russians!

Retro Gaming News: Ninja Gaiden / Shadow Warriors - Updated

"

Description:

No changes in gameplay but:
  • Some sprites of strange/ugly enemies have been replaced by most common ones (exit bikers, boxers, armored dogs and football players).
  • Some damages have been changed:
eagle: damages reduced from 3 to 1 (3 = no sense for a simple bird) ; green ninja: increased from 1 to 2 ; Bomberhead’ sickle: from 1 to 2 ; Bloody Malth’s lightning bolts: from 3 to 4 ; Jaquio’s fireballs: from 1 to 2 (that’s a challenge!)
  • Various graphical adjustments (for example, no more flickering in Barbarian’s sprite).
  • Some palette changes.
  • Bloody Malth don’t move his buckler anymore.
  • Barbarian’s axe is now a little more dangerous.
  • Time Freeze has been removed from the game (the level 6-3 was really too easy). Replaced by a simple bonus.
  • And others little changes!
I hope you will like this new version of this great game!
Thanks to:
  • Ninjax
  • FXedit, my old but still good Hex editor

Ads from the past 285: Lawnmower Man

I will be honest, I've never seen this movie and just the cover of this game is creepy as fuck. What can you expect from this really? Believe it or not, I did played the game and it's actually quite decent halfway until the later levels makes you want to rip your eyes out. Bleh! I thought he was the lawnmover man lol!

Retro Gaming News: Pokemon Pink Version

"

Description:

What is this?
This is Pokemon Pink Version and it’s a hack of Pokemon Blue (USA).
This is 80C’s third hack of Pokemon and it’s his first completed hack. This hack is not only an improvement of the original game but it includes a few new functionalities and features:
  • New Protagonist: Kris from Pokemon Crystal;
  • The introduction of 3 new types from further generations: Dark, Steel and Fairy-type have been added to the game;
  • The Type chart weakness/strength has been updated to match 6th generation parameters;
  • New starters: Jigglypuff, Pikachu and Vulpix;
  • The Unknown Dungeon has been updated and now it’s identical to Pokemon Yellow;
  • External tilesets have been updated to Pokemon Yellow;
  • Palettes were updated as well;
  • A few bugs have been fixed: Focus Energy isn’t any more broken and there’s no way to trigger normally the Glitch City Glitch by exploiting the Safari Zone warp flaws;
Bugs-Issues:
The same bugs and issues present in Pokemon Blue except those ones that were already fixed.
NOTE: Final Version v1.1 fixes the type weaknesses that were missing from version 1.0 due to an hex editing oversight.

Retro Gaming News: Pokemon Fast Red

"

Description:

This is an improvement patch for Pokemon Red that allows the player to move faster both on foot and bike by pressing of the B button.
While on foot the player will move with double of the speed by pressing the B button, it will move with quadruple of the speed on bike.
With this you’ll experience a feeling of speed never experienced before on the original Pokemon Red.
This hack-improvement was created by 80C and it uses an assembly routine developed by 80C himself.
The double-speed by pressing the B button while on foot barely resembles the so-called feature of the “Running Shoes” included in the Pokemon hacks made by KoolBoyMan but this hack-improvement has nothing to do with him or with his own hacks since the mechanics and the assembly codes used are very different, furthermore the feature of the quadruple speed is completely original as concept.

ROM / ISO Information:

  • *Pokemon - Red Version (USA, Europe) (SGB Enhanced) [No-Intro]
  • *Pokemon - Red Version (UE) [S][!]
  • *ROM Size: 1048576 Bytes (8 Mbit)

Bootleg Game of the Week 074: China Rabbit Baby (FC)

 What in the world is this???? Just when you think you've seen all the weird hacks and mods of a game, you get this and your mind blows up yet again. Ok, As you can see and if you're familiar with it, this is the game Mickey Mania but for the Famicom! Yeah, I already knew the game was ported to the Famicom as I have a copy myself in NES form but to add Buster Bunny in the mix and call it China Rabbit Baby! You Chinese never seize to amaze me! Anyways, lets take a look at what China Rabbit Baby has to offer...probably not much...
The sound of the game is awful especially when you compare it to the 16-bit version. Why would you want to put this in 8-bits??? Also, what the hell is Buster Bunny doing in all this mix!! AHHHHHH!!
So first you call it something like China Rabbit Baby and then you can't even get Buster's colors right? Fuck this shit you Chinese bastards! There is no way I can approve of such lazy work. Graphics are terrible not only because it's a chopped up copy of a 16-bit gem, but also because Buster is yellow!
Gameplay suffers a lot in this game. It's choppy and the platforms will disappear at times. There was a reason why this game was released on the later consoles. There is just so much going on that the lifeless worlds you get to play here don't do justice...
There is no way I could recommend you playing this crap after a first run. NOPE!
This is just another one of the many lazy hacks I've posted about but it should still be shown so that people are aware of its existence. I can't recommend it though...
